WHO aRE WE?

The Exploring Science Travelling Exhibitions are owned and operated by Science Projects – an educational charity whose aim is to promote the public understanding of science though the medium of hands-on exhibits.

HIStORy Of SuCCESS

We have 20 years of experience creating, travelling and operating a wide range of hands-on exhibitions and are now a major provider of hands-on science exhibits in the UK and abroad.

Science Projects’ first touring exhibition was the travelling Discovery Dome which toured the UK and Ireland from 1987 to 1995. This soon created a demand for more exhibitions and many museums asked if they could hire a smaller version. So the Exploring Science series of exhibitions was born.

After starting with just two there are now eight topics to choose from. They have toured 52 institutions in seven countries and have been visited by over two million people.

The exhibitions are designed especially for museums, science centres and festivals. They can be set up quickly and with the minimum of fuss so you can have an exhibition up and running in less than half a day. They provide an ideal way for you to present an ever-changing exhibition program.

The topics are chosen to appeal to a wide audience and are just as popular with family groups as they are with school parties. They are guaranteed to attract new audiences and increase visitor numbers to your institution.

Fool your brain and exercise your mind with these tricky puzzles and illusions. The illusions give fascinating insight into how the brain works while the puzzles may be easier if you employ a bit of lateral thinking.

Experiment with lenses, lightning, luminescence and many other classic demonstrations on colour and optics. Investigate how images merge into moving pictures and how much your brain influences what you see.

What are we humans made of and what makes us tick? Use the models and the microscope to find out what goes on inside our body. And identify plants and animals and see how they fit into the earth’s environment.

A fascinating blend of art, craft, science and technology from the middle ages. Try your hand at weaving and printing, operate a water wheel and assemble an early clock. Even knock down a castle wall with the newly-invented siege machine.

The forces of nature are invisible but they affect every moment of our lives. You can feel them when driving round corners, ice skating or riding a bike. And you can see their effects in smoke rings and bubbles, even the way water flows when watering the garden.

Have fun using these exhibits to find out more about yourself. Just how good is your hearing, vision and sense of smell? And are your reactions and memory as keen as they used to be?

We’re surrounded by sound and our ears are bombarded by noise but do you know how sound is made and how it travels? It’s all to do with vibrations of course.

Experiment with odd musical instruments, find out how your vocal cords work, puzzle your brain with sound illusions and watch your voice on a computer screen.

Luck, chance, risk and probability are all explored in this mixture of hands-on exhibits and active graphics. Find out how to rate your chance of winning the lottery or falling off a ladder. And see if you could run a nuclear power station!

ESSENtIaL INfORmatION

Each exhibition takes up about 100sq.m except Feel the Force, which needs about 150sq.m.

The exhibits are free-standing and can be arranged in many different ways. Power requirements are minimal and extension leads can be provided.

There are no special lighting requirements.

Delivery is generally by a large transit type van but exhibitions for overseas may be crated and freighted.

During the set up and take down of the exhibitions we need you to provide two people able to help carry and assemble the exhibits. In addition, those staffing the exhibition will need to be available for training at this time. It is useful if some of the staff are also the helpers, so they can learn about the exhibits as they are set up.

In advance of your booking, we provide a set of notes on the exhibits and a selection of promotional photographs. A maintenance manual and a kit of spare parts accompany the exhibition.
