    The art of rhythmical composition, written or spoken, for exciting pleasure by beautiful,

    imaginative, or elevated thoughts.

    ALPHABET (ABC)

    Each line in the poetry begins with subsequentletters of alphabets.The poetry need not be rhythmic and the flow of alphabet is given more importance.

    Example

    A young girl was walking in the rain.

    But her umbrella didn't open.Couldn't run, couldn't hurry,Dressed in new shoes,Entered a house full of chocolates.Found all her friends enjoying them.

    ACROSTIC

    This is a typical form of poetry where the first letter of each line form a word itself.The letters are vertically aligned to form a word,

    that may be the subject of the poem.

    AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL

    An autobiographical poem is personal - it revealssomething about the person writing the poem.It does not have to rhyme

    CINQUAINS

    Cinquains have five linesLine 1: Title (noun) - 1 wordLine 2: Description - 2 wordsLine 3: Action - 3 wordsLine 4: Feeling (phrase) - 4 wordsLine 5: Title (synonym for the title) - 1 word

    Ballad is one of the types of poems for children that hasto be rhythmic.The poetry retells a historical event or one can also pen

    down personal experiences in the form of a rhyme.Example

    HAIKU

    It's a kind of poem that evolved from Japan and isbased mainly on nature.It's usually has three lines where the first linecontains 3 syllables, the second line 7 syllables and

    the third line 5 syllables.

    they will shimmer and they'll glow until the sun shines~ Mattie M.

    RHYMING

    Rhyming is a kind of poetry that has a rhythmicpattern and it flows in the form of couplets, tripletsand quatrains

    Example

    'Couplets ' Twinkle twinkle little star How I wonder what you are!

    'Triplets ' All that I could say,I was happy and gay,For it's the month of May.

    LIMERICK

    It's a poetry that consists of 5 lines.The last word of the first, second and the fifth linerhymes and the last word of third and fourth linerhymes.

    ExampleThere once was a fellow named Tim

    whose dad never taught him to swimHe fell off a dockand sunk like a rock

    And that was the end of him

    I WISH

    Each line of the poem begins with the word I wish. Example :I wish I had three day weekends
