INFORMATIONThis revision sheet provides updates to the "Explosion-Protected R..7, F..7, K..7,K..9, S..7, SPIROPLAN® W Gear Unit Series" assembly and operating instructions. The following chapters are updated or amended:• "X7: Circumferential (dynamic) overhung load" and "X8: Changes to the permitted
ambient temperature" have been added to chapter 3.9.3 "Information on specialindication X identification".
• Chapter 4.11.1 "Mounting the shaft-mounted gear unit", step 4 - Installing the in-put shaft for gear units without shaft shoulder. New distance between shrink diskand gear unit housing: 2 – 3 mm.
• Chapter 5.10 "Installation and adjustment of the WEX speed monitor" corrected.Further, the permitted duration of start bypass time is reduced to 1 second.

1 RevisionInformation on special indication X identification
Revision – Explosion-Protected Gear Units4
1.1 Information on special indication X identificationX7: Circumferential(dynamic) over-hung load
In this case, the following agreement was met with the buyer: With circumferentialoverhung loads, the maximum permitted overhung load is reduced to the value statedin line X.
X8: Changes tothe permitted am-bient temperature
In this case, it was agreed with the buyer that this drive may only be operated withinthe specified ambient temperature range. The buyer of the product shall be obliged toobserve the specifications. For the special ambient temperature range, refer to the order confirmation and thenameplate.
1.2 Installing the shaft-mounted gear unit (with shrink disk)4. Install the shaft. Make sure that the outer rings of the shrink disk are installed in par-allel to each other.• Make sure that the outer rings of the shrink disk are plane-parallel.• If you have a gear unit with a shaft shoulder, fit the shrink disk onto the shaft
shoulder as far as the stop. However, the outer ring of the shrink disk facing thegear unit must have a minimum distance of no less than 2 mm from the gear unithousing.
• In the case of a gear unit without a shaft shoulder, mount the shrink disk at a dis-tance of 2 – 3 mm from the gear unit housing.
• Tighten the locking bolts by working round several times from one bolt to the next(not in diametrically opposite sequence). The tightening torques are given in thetable below. After mounting, grease the outer surface of the hollow shaft in thearea of the shrink disk to provide corrosion protection.

Revision – Explosion-Protected Gear Units 5
1.3 Installation and adjustment of the WEX speed monitor
WARNINGRisk of explosion if the speed monitor is located in a potentially explosive area.Fatal and serious injuries.• Install the speed monitor outside the potentially explosive area.
NOTICEThe speed monitor is damaged if startup is suppressed for longer than 1 second(terminals [13] and [14]).Device damage• Duration for start bypass ≤ 1 second.• Perform the settings carefully.• Remeasure to make sure that the setting is correct.
1. Read the operating instructions of the speed monitor manufacturer before you be-gin with the installation.
2. Perform the basic settings of the speed monitor in accordance with the operatinginstructions of the speed monitor manufacturer.
When the nominal speed of the motor in use is undercut by 5%, the settingsmust cause the drive to be switched off. Refer to the nameplate for the nominalspeed of the driving motor. The sensor integrated in the adapter generates 1 pulse per revolution of the adaptershaft. If the switching speed of the adapter is too low, i.e. the coupling slips, the drivingmotor must be disconnected from the supply voltage immediately. The cause of the problem must be eliminated and the operation of the adaptermust be stopped for at least 15 minutes before re-startup. If incorrect operation bythe operating personnel cannot be ruled out, this interval should be guaranteed usingan automatic restart lockout. All following installation and setting notes given refer to the speed monitor or voltageencoder in WEX design. If the installation and setting instructions do not correspond to the speed monitor in-cluded in the delivery, perform the installation and startup according to the documen-tation of the manufacturer.

1.3.2 Installing and setting other speed monitorsIf other speed monitors are used, they must feature an intrinsically safe sensor input(identification color: blue) for evaluation of sensors according to DIN 19234 (NAMUR)and be approved for use of this sensor in potentially explosive atmospheres.
INFORMATIONThe voltage encoder (sensor) generally features a blue connection cable and mustconform to DIN 19234 (NAMUR). The corresponding inspection number may be at-tached to the voltage encoder or the connection cable.
