WALL EXPLOSION RELIEF PANELS (ERPs) FOR ONSHORE COMPRESSOR STATIONS AND HYDROGEN /LNG POWERED SHIPS

Vertical panel before explosion

During 0.5 bar explosion

After explosion

• External framing spans up to 6m between building columns without supplementary support

• 1.5m x 1.2 to 1.5mm thick gr 316L stainless steel panels wrap around spine beam so cannot fly off in an explosion

• 100kg/m2 rockwool fire insulation and foil liner gives fire protection and 39dBa sound reduction

• Optional external blast resistance

• Full scale Explosion test reports and certification

• Lab tested release clip design

• Downward pointing outer beam flanges prevent icing of release zones at edges of panels

• Architecturally simple

• Projectiles are just rockwool

• Design to FABIG Technical Note 2 “Explosion mitigation systems” and Norsok C002

• Typical compressor building project sizes from 250 to 12000 m2

• Supplementary downstream panels above water line for ships

ROOF ERPs AND SUPER FAST OPENING PANELS

rhinodoors.com

Rhino Proprietary ERPs

• Lightweight durable stainless steel panel & fittings

• Fast opening

• No projectiles

• Corrugated like roof sheeting

• Suitable for walls or roofs

• Double sealing, >=5% roof slope

• Supplied as complete cassettes with integral framing or in kit-form Choice depends upon site man-hour rate for site erection

• Suitable for compressor stations and Hydrogen refuelling stations (12.3m2 for 20ft ISO container)

• 30-40mbar release pressure Pstat – small panel width, gives high venting efficiency to EN14797

• More vent area per roof than conventional ERPs• Tolerance for fast rate of pressure rise• Supplied as complete roof units with framing

designed to support top of ISO container wall

• Optional integral louvre outlets for ventilation and warm air heating during snowfall

• Suitable for other forms of Hydrogen refuelling station

• Please note Rhino also supplies Blast doors, blast strengthening kits and foundation attachments for ISO Hydrogen refuelling modules

Conclusions from the comparison:• Conventional ERP fully open after pressure peaks

in the ISO container

• Rhino fast ERP fully open before pressure peaks in the ISO container

• Rhino panel would have produced lower peak pressures than the 0.35 bar

• Further work by Rhino planned to demonstrated degree of reduction in peak pressure

• GexCon Conclusion from HySEA tests: “Venting devices can prevent rupture and fragmentation of containers, even for strong hydrogen deflagrations”
