Export Desktop Motion Analyzer profiles to Motion Analyzer Online:

SolidWorks Motion Study Move Profile

For: Motion profiles with simple or static loads

Splits motion profile into user defined number of linear segments

Does not export load data

1. To export motion profiles from Desktop Motion Analyzer to Motion Analyzer Online using a

SolidWorks Motion Study Move Profile, open both tools.

2. To import this profile, you first need to create a template to paste your data into. To do so, open

Motion Analyzer Online at https://motionanalyzer.rockwellautomation.com/.

3. Log in. From the homepage, select “Start A New Project.”

4. Enter a Project Name and Project Description. Select “Create Project.”

5. Set the ambient temperature and altitude to match the Desktop Motion Analyzer profile. See

below for directions to find that data. Then, select “Go to project.”

To find the ambient temperature and altitude in Desktop Motion Analyzer, open the “Axis View”

from the “Home” tab, open your axis, and select the “Motor” or “Linear Thruster” tab.

Page 3: Export Desktop Motion Analyzer profiles to Motion Analyzer ...... · The SolidWorks Motion Study Move Profile will always export to rad/s, the correct unit of angular velocity to

6. Select “Create New Axis & Profile.”

7. Select the motion type that matches your Desktop Motion Analyzer axis and select “OK.”

8. Name and define your initial load, then select “Submit.”

9. Select “Save” and then “Export Profile”

10. Save the .xlsx file to a known location, then open it. Minimize it for now.

Minimize Motion Analyzer Online. Do not close it; you will need it later.

11. Open your existing Desktop Motion Analyzer project that you would like to export.

The SolidWorks Motion Study Move Profile will always export to rad/s, the correct unit of

angular velocity to import into Motion Analyzer online, so you do not need to convert units.

12. From the Group View, select the motion profile icon of the axis profile that you would like to

export.

13. From the Profile view, select “Edit Motion Profile.”

15. Select “Next >”. Then select “SolidWorks Motion Study Move Profile” and “Next >” again

16. Select “Load Profile” and enter the number of segments you would like to use. That number

determines how many equal lengths of time your profile will be broken into. A higher number

will produce a higher resolution profile, but will also take longer to load.

NOTE: Do not enter more than 2000 for the Number of Segments.

17. Select either “Clipboard” or “File.” If you selected “File”, select “Browse” and save the file to a

known location. Find and open that file.

Select “Next >”, then select “Finish.”

18. Open the .xlsx file that you exported from Motion Analyzer Online earlier. Navigate to the

“Motion” sheet. Delete the data in row 2.

19. If you copied the profile to the clipboard, paste it into cell A2. If you saved it to a file, open that

file, select all of the text, copy it, and paste it into cell A2.

20. The data that you entered is the time and velocity of the profile, not the time and position.

Move the data from the Position column to the Velocity column.

21. Save the file.

22. Maximize Motion Analyzer Online and open your blank motion profile. Select “Import Profile.”

23. Select “Replace with an Excel file” then “Choose file.” Navigate to your file, select it, and select

“Open.” Wait until Motion Analyzer Online uploads it and loads the updated motion profile

view.

24. Use the resize arrows to scale the profile.

Notice also that this type of profile does not bring any load data with it. You will need to

manually enter the load.

25. Because no load data transfers with this profile, you will need to manually add it. To do so, first

click on the initial point show on the left edge of the graph.

Page 13: Export Desktop Motion Analyzer profiles to Motion Analyzer ...... · The SolidWorks Motion Study Move Profile will always export to rad/s, the correct unit of angular velocity to

26. Edit the initial load, then click “Submit.”

27. After setting your initial load, click anywhere else on the graph to set another point. You can

click anywhere in the open space, including on a time marker line. Do not click on the shaded

area under the graph, or you will be asked to edit an existing point.

If you click on a line, you will be asked if you would like to add a point. Select “Ok.”

Page 14: Export Desktop Motion Analyzer profiles to Motion Analyzer ...... · The SolidWorks Motion Study Move Profile will always export to rad/s, the correct unit of angular velocity to

28. Wherever you click, you will receive the same options to define another point. Set the time and

load, then select “Submit.”

Define at least a starting and ending point.

29. You can also create a new point by selecting “Add Point.”

Page 15: Export Desktop Motion Analyzer profiles to Motion Analyzer ...... · The SolidWorks Motion Study Move Profile will always export to rad/s, the correct unit of angular velocity to

Then select the load you would like to add a point to, and define a point as described above.

30. If you would like to add more points for a complicated load, do so by repeating steps 20-23.

31. If you need to edit or delete a point, click on that point. To edit it, change the values and select

“Submit.” To delete it, select “Delete.”

If you chose to delete it, select “Yes, delete this point.”

32. Save your profile.
