PEARL Exposure Visit Mysore and Bangalore Municipal Corporation 26 - 29 February 2012 Training cum Exposure visit to the Elected Representative and the officials of the Urban Local Bodies representing the NURM cities and towns from North East States and Jammu and Kashmir was organised by National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) in collaboration with the State Institute for Urban Development (SIUD), ATI, Mysore from 26th February to 29th February 2012. The objectives of the Exposure visit was to show case the Works undertaken by the implementing Agencies of JNNURM in Mysore and Bangalore. The nominations were made by the respective Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of NE states and J&K and 13 participants from Manipur, Assam, Mizoram, Sikkim, Jammu and Kashmir took part in the training. The Elected Representatives included Mayor from Sikkim, Former Mayor, Councilors, Commissioners and Engineers from ULBs. The visit was sponsored by the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD), Government of India through NIUA, New Delhi. The Training started with the inaugural; function on 26th evening at Hotel Sandesh the Prince, Mysore. The Dignitaries at the inaugural function included Sri. Prem Narayan, Director JNNURM-V, MOUD, Government of India, Sri. P. Vastrad, Deputy Commissioner, Mysore, Sri. K.S. Raykar, Commissioner, Mysore City Corporation, Prof. V.K. Dhar, from NIUA Dr. Betsurmath, Commissioner Mysore Urban Development Authority, Sri. Pranalinga Sivasali, Director, SIUD and Prof. N. Narayana Sastry, Consultant SIUD and Coordinator of this program. The Training Programme was inaugurated by Shri. Prem Narayan, Director, JnNURM, MoUD, GoI. On 26th February 2012. In his presentation Shri. Prem Narayan explained the main features of JNNURM and the lessons learnt in Ist phase. He noted that the capacity building is crucial before launching any new schemes and in this direction he lauded the efforts of SIUD, Mysore in training the officials of the Urban Local Bodies. Shri. Raykar, Commissioner, Mysore City Corporation (MCC), Mysore briefly mentioned the projects of JnNURM and new initiatives on zero waste management, drinking water supply, GPS which has resulted in cutoff the fuel consumption and management of waste from vegetable market converted to fuel. The 13 representatives were hosted and accompanied by Mysore and Brihat Bangaluru Mahanagara Nagarpalike (BBMP) officials and representatives from SIUD, Mysore and NIUA. Divided into two days, the first day consists of delegates visiting different projects of MCC like the waste water treatment and land fill sites, visit to zero waste management, visit to ring road works under taken by MUDA, Visit to IMTC & Inaugural Session North-East and Jammu & Kashmir Participants at the Workshop
