English vs. Spanish

• In English, when we introduce, we say:

• I would like to introduce you to someone.

• In Spanish, it is opposite, as introduce by saying:

– I would like to introduce someone to you.

¿Te, Le, or Les?

SECOND STEP

Before the verb “presento” or attached to “presentar” we have to choose an indirect object pronoun:– Te (to you) When speaking to one friend– Le (to you) When speaking politely to one person– Les (to you all) When speaking to more than one person

* Note: Te, Le, Les refer to whom you are directly speaking. That is to say, the person to whom the introduction is being made.

THIRD STEP

• Te presento/Quiero presentarte = I would like to introduce to you (friendly, one person)

• Le presento/Quiero presentarle = I would like to introduce to you (polite, one person)

FOURTH STEP

• After the verb “presento” or the expression “quiero presentar” we state the person or persons being introduced. Before each person’s name, we must use the word “a.”

• The preposition “a” usually means “to” or “at.”

• However, when introducing, it has no meaning

at all, but must be included.

Los títulosCommon Spanish titles used with last names are:

– señor (Sr.) = Mister (Mr.)– señora (Sra.) = Misses (Mrs.) – señorita (Srta.) = Miss (Ms.)

These titles are only capitalized if they begin a sentence, or if they are abbreviated anywhere in a sentence.

NOTE: In Spanish, titles are sometimes used without the last name:

señor = Sir señora = Ma’am señorita = Miss
