ExSurfcise Science: Physiology of Surfing Program Overview This study abroad course is designed to educate you about the physiological aspects of surfing. How? Within this course, through hands-on experience, you will immerse yourself by developing and deploying a 6-week sport-specific exercise prescripon to enhance paddle/surfing fitness during the Fall 2017 semester which will culminate in a week-long excursion to Costa Rica at the start of winter break. We will collect pre- and post-course data on your fitness to assess your level of improvement. You will also be given a state-of-the-art wearable technology to collect daily and overall real-me physiological metrics on land and in the ocean before and during the course. Nosara, Costa Rica was touted by National Geographic as one of the Top 20 surf towns in the world. While Nosara will serve as our home base, we will be traveling throughout the Northern and Southern Nicoya Peninsula in search of surf.

Federal and state financial aid may be applied toward this program. Even if you are normally ineligible for financial aid, you should submit a financial aid application (FAFSA). You may find that you are eligible for additional funding.

You will be taken to well-known and remote surf locations within the Northern and Southern Nicoya Peninsula. It is at these surf locations where we will collect your physiological and surf metrics.
