1.1 Definitions
The designation CMGA is used as an umbrella term for all derivatives of the CMGA product line. If the
description refers to a specific derivative, the complete designation is used in each case
(e.g. CMGA-B1-M0-L0-A0)
The subsequently used term “safe” refers in each case to the classification as safe function for the
application up to PL e in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1 or SIL3 in accordance with IEC 61508.
2 Safety regulations
2.1 Operation and service
Before installation and removal of the module or disconnecting signal lines, power to the module must
be switched off. For this purpose, all live supply lines to the device must be switched off and checked to
ensure no voltage is present.
The warranty and safety certifications are null and void if the modules have been manipulated.
The CMGA can be operated in a temperature range between 0° and 50 °C. Make sure that this temper-
ature range is not exceeded.

3 Modification of an installation
Commissioning or modification of an installation of the CMGA can only be performed by qualified per-
sonnel!
Contact the company that produced the safety-relevant test report. Changing the configuration can
cause the module to lose its safety function.

4 Commissioning
The CMGA-E1 is an input/output extension module that can only be used in combination with a CMGA
basic module (i.e. CMGA-B1-M0-L0-A0, CMGA-B1-M1-L1-A0 or CMGA-B1-M2-L2-A0).
It is connected to the basic module via the backwall bus.

Power supply to the CMGA-E1 takes place via the backwall bus plug connector of the basic unit (see
“Installation instructions CMGA”).
Power is supplied to the outputs through the X11 plug of the CMGA-E1.

5 Configuration
The CMGA-E1 is configured with the program FES “Festo Editor for Safety with CMGA”.
After the program starts, select “I/O extension CMGA-E1”.
Fig. 4 CMGA device selection
Double click in the main menu on the entire device to open the configuration dialog.
Fig. 5 CMGA-E1
In this window, write the serial number of the CMGA-E1 (see rating plate) into the field “Device 1”. The
value of the input field “Device 2” must be different from “Device 1” and must not be zero.
You can also choose whether to use the outputs as safety or as standard outputs.

“4” RUN Normal operation
“5” STOP Only available for authorised personnel.
“A” ALARM Alarm can be reset by pressing the “Function” key.
“F” FAILURE Failure can be reset by switching the VMGA on/off (power supply).
Tab. 3 LED display
Note:
Only the operating status 4 = RUN makes it possible to operate the machine or system. Only then are
all configured safety functions active.
If the CMGA is in the mode “Alarm” = A or in the mode “Failure” = F, all safety-relevant outputs are
deactivated.

8 Error types of the CMGA
In principle, the CMGA distinguishes between two kinds of errors according to the following allocation:
Error type Description Effect on the
system
Reset
condition
Fatal error Serious exception error through program run in the
CMGA. Cyclic program sequence is no longer possible
for safety related reasons. The last active process is
the operation of the 7-segment display by system A.
System B is in the Stop mode.
All outputs are
switched off!
Can be reset
by switching
the CMGA
(POR) off and
on.
Alarm Functional error, caused by an external process. Both
systems continue to run cyclically and serve all re-
quests from the communication interfaces. Sensing
of the external process is also maintained.
All outputs are
switched off!
Reset possible
via
parametrisable
input
Tab. 4 Error types
If an alarm or fatal error occurs more frequently, contact the company that installed the machine or
system.
All error codes of the CMGA basic module, including the one from the CMGA-E1, are shown in the dis-
play of the basic unit.

9 Change / handling changes to the modules or installation
Repair
Repair work on the module can only be performed in the factory.
Warranty
If the CMGA module is modified or the housing is opened, the warranty and safety certification are null
and void.
Mechanical modifications
Through modification of the drives/mechanical transmission or alteration of the sensors (encoders),
the safety function can be lost. Talk to the company that installed or delivered the CMGA modules or
the person who prepared the safety test report.
Electrical modifications
Through modification of the cabling or wiring of the CMGA modules, the safety function can be lost. Talk
to the company that installed or delivered the CMGA modules or the person who prepared the safety
test report.
10 Maintenance
10.1 Replacement of a CMGAmodule
After replacement of a CMGA module, it must be ensured that the replacement module includes the
same configuration. The test report code (checksum / CRC) can be shown in the 7-segment display. It
must be ensured that these numbers are the same as in the test report.
Follow the instructions when replacing a CMGA module:
1. Disconnect drive controller from the main power supply.
2. Switch off the power supply for the device and disconnect.
3. Disconnect and pull out the plugs of the sensors.
4. Remove all other plug-in connections.
5. Take the module off the H-rail and pack it EMC-compliantly.
6. Attach the new module onto the H-rail.
7. Reconnect all connections.
8. Switch drive controller back on.
9. Switch on the supply voltage.
Note:
Plug-in connections of the CMGA module must not be disconnected or reconnected when powered.
There is a danger of sensor damage, particularly with connected position or speed sensors.
