Exterior Replica Plants

As the Company that has earned a reputation for creating the most authentic indoor artificial plants, Commercial Silk Int’l, a division of Plantscape Inc., has expanded its product line to include exterior Replica plants and trees.

We understand that live plants are not always feasible and in fact sometimes not the best solution; so to that end we have created a line of exterior Replica plants and trees to address these situations. Our exterior Replica plants are made using our trademarked PermaLeaf® foliage. PermaLeaf® is a commercial grade exterior foliage that is made from specially formulated polyethylene plastic that has been impregnated with ultraviolet blocking chemicals to protect the color from the sun’s rays. All of our incredibly realistic-looking plants are precisely detailed in coloration and shape to produce accurate botanical representations.

In addition, we have an experienced team that will work with you to design and install plants that are the most appropriate for your specific project — from a small patio design to a large custom installation. Our plants are ideal for rooftop gardens, entrances to buildings, creating hedging or visual screens, themeing, or any other place that live plants won’t work.

Commercial Silk International’s trademarked PermaLeaf® outdoor artificial foliage is a specially

formulated weatherable plastic designed and engineered to withstand harsh outdoor conditions

caused by wind, water and sun. PermaLeaf®combines UV blocking technology with strong

colorfast pigments to create an inherently fade resistant foliage for outdoor use. PermaLeaf®

has been tested for colorfastness according to ASTM G155-05, and after one year of UV exposure

equivalent to Miami, Florida or Phoenix, Arizona, PermaLeaf® had NO COLOR LOSS visible by sight.

ColorUV stable & lightfast

You might never have considered what the value is in the color of a product, but did you know that there are different grades of color pigments. In fact, color pigments have a range of attributes all of which must be considered when making a selection for outdoor use.

Attributes include- lightfastness - i.e. what is the impact on color when exposed to UV rays- heat stability - i.e. can the color be prcessed at a temperature suitable for the manufacing process- toxicity - i.e. does the color pigment meet the safety requirements for its intended use- tinting strength- staining- dispersion - i.e. can the color pigment be dispersed perfectly through the plant to achieve a rich, natural color.- opacity or transparency - i.e. can the color be altered to achieve the necessary opacity or transparency to create a lifelike plant.- resistance to alkalis and acids - i.e. how will the color be affected if exposed to natural environ mental concerns like acid rain or from chemicals hsprayed in outdoor enviroments.- reactions and interaction between pigments

The color pigments used in the manufacturing of our PermaLeaf® plants are of the highest grade possible for the benefit of producing the longest lasting outdoor artificial plant.

While the quality of the color pigment is a major consideration when manufacturing a product for outdoor use, the quality of the UV stabilizers are equally as important. If we succeed in developing a fade resistant color, we must also succeed in developing a sustainable plastic. If the plas-tic does not weather well and falls apart, the color retention is of no value. UV stabilization and color retention are equally important and mutually inclusive.

The UV stabilizers used in the manufacturing of our PermaLeaf® plants have been carefully se-lected and compounded by a team of chem-ists to provide the necessary sustainability to our plants in outdoor environments.

Commercial grade

The third major material component which sepa-rates the PermaLeaf® brand of outdoor artificial plants from the competition is the quality of the resin. Much like color pigment and UV stabilizers there are a number of grades of resins. Many of the resins used in artificial plants are made from recycled plastic. While the concept of recycling plastic is noble, it is not suitable for outdoor use. It is imperative that the resin be manufactured from mostly solids with little filler ensuring the long term weatherability of the plastic.

PermaLeaf® plants are designed for outdoor use. Every detail of the construction is evaluated to determine the best con-struction method for outdoor applications.

Leaf Connections - Heavy duty arrow tips and recessed channel locks prevent leaf lose from wind.

Wire - We use heavy gauge steel wire to prevent bending from wind, snow or ice.

Stainless Steel - PermaLeaf® plants are offered in both mild steel and stainless steel. Depending on the application, any of the PermaLeaf® plants can be manufactured with stainless steel.

The only way to validate the claim is for the manufacturer to supply UV weathering test data that supports the claim.
