Footnotes and Bibliographies Footnotes are indented like this and have a space between one footnote and

the next. Use superscripts to indicate that you have a footnote for the information you are summarizing, or for a direct quote and use the same superscript for your footnote entry. Put word for word quotes in “quotation marks like this.”² Your footnote goes at the bottom of the page below a line. Your Word Document will create them for you. In Word 2007, you will find this under the References tab.

²Adam West, A Good Footnote, see how the name is: first name first, then last name…Look at the bottom of pages of the Sample Paper for more ideas on footnoting. Remember to capitalize book titles and journal names and put journal articles in “quotation marks.”

SELECTED BIBLIOGRAPHYBibliography entries are sort of the opposite; they indent like this! Do not include the

page number here for quotes, like you do in footnotes. For journal articles you do list the pages where the article was found.

West, Adam. Bibliography entries are in alphabetical order, and the last name goes first—also the opposite of the way footnotes are indented.
