AUTUMN TERM 2017
The Clubs booklet will be uploaded onto Firefly in the evening of Thursday 7 September, and
booking will begin on Friday 8 September at 5pm (see below for more details).
In order to sign up for the after school clubs, all parents will need to use the following process.
On Thursday 7 September, the booklets detailing the club offer for the Autumn term will be
uploaded to Firefly, for access to the booklet please click here.
Please remember the login for the parent portal has changed – every parent should have received
an email with their login information for firefly – if you have not received one, please contact
Manon van der Veen.
There is one booklet, detailing all of the clubs on offer across the primary school (Early Years, Infant,
Junior) At the front of the booklet there is an overview so you can see at a glance which clubs are
open to different year groups. (Please note clubs are not available for Nursery children).
Please read the information about the different clubs on offer carefully. Each outside provider has
given details of the kind of activities involved in their club, the dates for the term, cost, the number
of children allowed in the club and a contact for future reference. There is a calendar in the booklet
which indicates which days the clubs will run. There are no clubs in the last week of term, and clubs
do not operate on the days of Parents Evenings. In the summer term, there are no clubs run by
members of the school staff in the Primary departments.
On Friday 8 September at 5pm the online booking system will open:
Once you have decided on which clubs you would like to select for your child/ren, please follow the
links at the bottom of the Clubs page to access the online Extra Curricular request Form.
To fill out the form, you will need to enter the full name (First and family name) of your child, select
their class from the drop down box, enter a contact email that the club provider will be given, and
then select which clubs you would like to sign up for
The clubs are arranged by day. You do not have to choose a club for each day, and we would
recommend a limit to clubs dependent on the age of your child:
o Reception– 1 club per week
o Year 1 & 2– no more than 2 clubs per week
o Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 – no more than 3 clubs per week
Club Booking Procedures
Some clubs are very popular, and in the event of a club reaching its maximum capacity, all children
entered afterwards will form the waiting list. If you have not got into a club, you can then arrange
for a different club after the initial process has finished, or go on the waiting list in case others drop
out.
Once you have finished the selection, please press submit, and then you have completed the
process. Please note, if you subsequently decide you would like to change your choices, you
must re-submit the entire form before the deadline, but you may then appear further
down the waiting list and so may not get in to an oversubscribed club.
Each entry is then filed on our data base, with a time marked entry, so that we will be able
to see which children have applied for a club in which order, and can then create club lists
fairly.
The deadline for booking clubs and filling in online forms will be MONDAY 11 September at 5pm
We will then inform parents and children of their club requests by letter before Thursday 14
September. If you have not got into the club of first choice, you will then be able to arrange with Mrs
Lankenau to find out which clubs have spaces. Outside club providers levy a charge (detailed in the
booklet) - parents are expected to meet the providers after the first session and arrange payment.
Please ensure that this is done promptly so that the clubs can run for all.
Clubs will start on Monday 18 September, and will run until Friday 8 December. Please note that we
are only able to receive bookings for clubs via the website.
Yours sincerely,
Eva Lankenau

This complements the work of our own staff in supporting and guiding children for whom English is an additional language. Fun Learning English uses native English speaking teachers to lead small groups of children in exciting games, instructive role-plays, creative crafts and songs, and by reading aloud to keep the children curious, enthusiastic and sub-consciously learning as they go. Having “Fun” with “English” is the most important element of their program. They take advantage of the tremendous capacity of young children to pick up a new language, especially in a playful environment. Over the last 10 years, social media apps and filmmaking tools have become a fundamental part of our digital lives. Young people, in particular, learn, socialise, explore their identities and engage with the world using their screens. Media literacy is now a basic literacy. In response to these developments, Film Crew Club workshops focus on conversation and co-creation formats: students work with cameras, iPads, mobile phones to explore 2/3D animation, live action, gaming and social media content. By making films together, students learn, first hand, how to look at media critically and how to engage with it safely and respectfully. Film Crew Club workshops are offered as part of after-school programmes in many Amsterdam based schools. They are also offered as independent workshops throughout the year for kids, teens and adults at other locations. Bricks Challenge is our most popular enrichment program. The overall course objective is to impart theoretical and applied knowledge in the fields of Science, Technology, Me-chanical Engineering, and Math (STEM) by using LEGO® technic parts and other exciting tools.
The main goal of the course is to illustrate content through stories and demonstrations. Our students will learn math and physical principles through intuitive study, develop their independent learning and improve their building skills.
The course will provide mathematical integration between physical laws and the simple calculations to support them. The laws and mathematics are both illustrated through the construction of exciting LEGO® bricks models. Once the concepts have been demonstrat-ed students enjoy hands on building the YE LEGO® models which provides experiential learning and reinforces the lessons topic. To carry out the building process, students re-ceive a tailor made kit developed by Young Engineers.

Mountains tumbling into headstands, suddenly converting into speeding cycles. Bridges collapsing
into roaring lions, a cocooned caterpillar turning into beautiful butterflies. These amazing pictures are
nothing but scenes from any normal household. Watch a child and you will know. The natural postures
of a child are yoga asanas, which is the Indian word for ‘postures’. This is what the body is born with
– simple yoga asanas that are part of a child’s body language from the minute he/she is born.
Priya Machado has been teaching yoga since 1988. She studied in various yoga schools in India and
did an International teacher training programme at the Sivananda School of Yoga in Kerala, South
India. She continues to teach yoga to adults and children in Amsterdam.
Priya believes yoga at an early age encourages self-esteem and body awareness with a physical
activity that is non-competitive. Her approach is creative with the use of animated postures and basic
stretching exercises to promote strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness. Breathing and
visualisation techniques teach kids how to focus, relax and develop self-control. Yoga helps balance
children’s energy and concentration levels.
Yoga postures and the routine can also be developed into games, which make the session more
creative and interesting for children to engage with and gives them the experience of working together
either in pairs or as a group. Priya’s yoga is a fun and the term ends with a performance for the
parents, which the children enjoy preparing for, towards the end of the last few sessions.
It is preferred that parents who register for the yoga club, commit to sending their child from
the start, as the club is run based on the number of registrations in order to make it worth while
for the club provider.
The scheduled number of sessions are 11 and it might be that the Club Provider can only do
9…though this will be known nearer the time and will be communicated to the parents at the
start of the Club.
If you have any questions about the yoga session please send an email to [email protected] or
call 06272210

We do painting, drawing, claywork, paper/cardwork – lots of imaginative work. You can see examples on my website, www.tonychapman-artmusic.com
There is a relaxed atmosphere – making art is fun. I encourage self expression and freedom in art making – I give a project as a starting point – the most important thing for me is the student’s own interpretation... I‘m always amazed and delighted to see what students come up with...
I’ve been running these groups for the last 19 years – at the British School of Amsterdam, ISA and AICS. I have a B.A. Hons Degree in Creative Arts. I am a painter and sculptor.
I also teach guitar (privately and at the British School of Amsterdam) and I teach piano (privately).
I am English – and have lived in Amsterdam for the last 20 years. I am also a singer/songwriter
with my own band, “The Big Event”, performing in and around Amsterdam.
All art materials are provided.

During the course children learn about the principles of pop/rock music, get acquainted with legendary musicians and their popular songs. This club is a nice combination of vocal and acting training, dancing, body percussion, rhythmical exercises and instrumental workshops with our creative musicians. Children get their first taste of composing simple pop songs and sound recording. For the first time they try to deal with fellow musicians and work together as a band. Every term we work on a few numbers with a gradual preparation for the final show (after the second term), where kids perform their chosen songs and dance. Together we encourage the participants' talents, skills and confidence in a relaxed playful way.
Goals
We teach how to
Respect ideas & thoughts of others
Be patient with the people you work with.
Learn to follow a conductor and become one unit.
Be open minded about learning new & engaging material.
Improve our music skills, such as: rhythm, balance, work as a unit, expanding music recognition & knowledge, performance & showmanship
Our Philosophy

It doesn't matter if you children have any prior experience in music or any special skills. We'll help them to find their own path in the world of music. Children will be allowed to choose what role they want to take: sing, dance, play a musical instruments or make a percussion performance using ordinary objects.
