Goal: To establish an integrated Eye Care Education Academy in North

India for provide human resource for the global eye-care community.

About: The Academy is a collaboration between Standard Chartered

Bank and Dr Shroff’s Charity Eye Hospital for creating a resource for the global eye-care community to align competencies and maximize resources. This will take the form of collaborative research, sharing tolls and experiences, leveraging resources, producing outcomes and accelerating the sharing of knowledge.

The total available working hours for the duration of the Fellowship are 2,312. Duration has been split into class time and on-the-job time.

In-class time has been allocated more in Q1, which will eventually reduce in proportion, as the candidates spend more time on field/job working on projects over the year.

Clinical: Optic Eye Diseases

Course Objectives: Introduction to key concepts of human eye anatomy, common eye diseases, available treatment in eye hospitals, different diagnostic equipment used in OPD their use, their roles and their application in eye care contexts. It will focus on aligning knowledge about the eye care service offerings with the basic knowledge about eye procedure & terminology availability in hospital, surgical treatment availability in hospital, knowledge to educate patient for healthy medication practice after surgery, knowledge about optical services.

Learning Outcomes: At the end of the module, you should be able to: • Explain about the eye care services availability (medical, surgical and diagnostic) in

hospital. • Understand effective feasibility and applicability of a number of medical equipment

and availability in OPD. • Understand the utilization of equipment at vision center, camps, community

outreach activities as well as base hospital. • Identify and explain common eye diseases and its possible treatment availability in

hospital • Highlight any incidents in hospital (either clinical or non-clinical) and to identify the

root cause and to take corrective action

Course Objectives: Introduction to the basic understanding of Patient Care and its procedures. The course will highlight the importance of the role of patient care and counselor in the overall eye care set-up, as well as the related roles and responsibilities. This includes demonstration of patient flow, its related processes, analysis of OPD Management and its related documentation, as well as handling of Patient complaints.

Learning Outcomes: At the end of the module, you should be able to:

• Analyze the overall processes including Appointments, Registrations, Referral, Complaints

Course Objectives: To make the participants understand the concept and need of Public Health interventions; the models of outreach; the cataract outreach program; their role in the public health initiatives by the organization; planning and implementation cycle in details

• Understand and bring out the need of various public health interventions in eye care at a national and regional level

Course Objectives: The course introduces to the basic accounting concepts and applicability in the eye care system. This includes the authority norms, system of advance/imprest, petty cash, reporting, income and expenditure records and process of settlements. The course will equip the candidates with basic knowledge, norms, procedures and timelines of accounting and finance standards to be maintained in the eye care hospital.

Course Objectives: Introduction to basic knowledge in the establishment of a system for selection of suppliers including their evaluation on the basis of their capability to meet the specified requirement (s) and structured method for purchasing & storing products confirm to the specified requirements in eye care. It will describe the importance of the role of Purchases, Procurement and Storage in the organization.

Course Objectives: Introduction to information on the general maintenance of the ophthalmic instruments and equipment, its management, and maintenance protocol. Description of the preventive measures and repairs for the eye care centers and equipment.

• Discuss the common practices followed in maintaining the sterility of the operation theatre (OT) and equipment

• Describe the repair, maintenance and preventive maintenance of about the center

Course Objectives: Introduction to basic knowledge about Quality in Eye Care. Description of in- depth procedures and protocols of Quality Management systems, its related documentation, its key parameters/indicators and overall importance. The course will highlight NABH entry level procedures, and audits. The course will also include procedures for Incidence Reporting, Informed Consent and Medical Record Completion. It will highlight the importance of Quality Management essential for the smooth functioning of the hospital.

• Basic understanding of Quality Management Systems, Incidence Reporting, Informed Consent and Medical Record Completion

• Understand the Standard Operating Protocols of each and every department
