Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade classes are busily preparing for the upcoming Florida Standards Assessments (FSA) each day. In fact, the writing portion of the FSA will begin the week of February 27, 2017. It’s important to remember, each day’s lessons in all classes, at every grade level, are crucial building blocks for student learning and the overall cognitive development of your student. It’s also worth noting that each student must be present for both the Writing FSA in February and the Reading FSA in April in order to receive a score for the assessment. As a result, I urge each parent to please make every effort to have your children attend school each day. Additional events I want you all to mark on your calendar is our next School Advisory Council (SAC) meeting that will be held on Tuesday, February 21, 2017. As always, all stakeholders are both welcome and encouraged to attend these advisory meetings. I want to conclude by congratulating all the students who were recognized as all county participants in band, orchestra and chorus. Your accomplishments are truly a team effort with your collaboration with both your teachers and your parents. It is always amazing to see how many talented students we have doing tremendous things, and I hope you take a moment to look through this edition of our newsletter to see just what our hurricanes have been accomplishing lately. Dear Hinson Hurricane Families,

February is a busy time of the school year for the students and faculty at David Hinson Middle School.

Just a reminder: The speed limit on Clyde Morris in the area of the school has changed. It is now a School Zone!!! The speed limit is now 25 MPH, when the lights are flashing. Please be extra careful when approaching this area and remember, just because you are in a turning lane does not allow you to bypass the speed limit set forth by the department of transportation. Also, there is no stopping or parking in the turning lane!

If you get a speeding ticket in this zone, the fines are elevated. Please drive safely!

Thank you,

Officer Ryan Forrest School Resource Officer Hinson Middle School 386-258-4682 ext. 53010

Subject: Early Dismissal/Check-Out Procedure

Dear Parents and/or Guardians:

The education, safety and well-being of each student attending David C. Hinson Sr. Middle School is our top priority. To assist us with early check outs please make note of the following:

We ask that you please send a note in with your child stating the time that they will be checked out and who will be picking them up. Please include a telephone number where you can be reached. This note should be turned in to their grade office before reporting to 1st period.

If you’re checking out your child during PE class, we suggest that your child should NOT dress out. If possible, please do not plan on checking your student out during PE if you did not send in a note. Once students are dressed out for this class the time involved in getting your student back into the locker room to change clothes can be quite lengthy.

Also, please do not plan on checking your student out during the last 15 minutes of the day because this is a very busy time in the front office and making sure all of our students get home correctly is the priority at that time.

Please be patient. It could take up to 30 minutes to get your student depending on the class he or she is in and any items he or she may need to get before coming to the office.

We appreciate your consideration and understanding regarding the aforementioned policy items.

Sincerely,

Robert Ouellette Principal

**REMINDER**

TO ALL PARENTS OF CURRENT 6TH GRADERS

IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS

This is a reminder that you will need to verify that the immunization requirements for your child have been met PRIOR to your child entering the 7th grade. To keep his/her immunization record in compliance with the Florida State law, proof of the needed requirements must be presented to the school. You must provide documentation of the immunizations on a Florida Certificate of Immunization Form. All students, prior to entering 7th grade, must have a Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Pertussis) immunization. A second MMR immunization and have the Hepatitis B Series (3 shots) series completed (or if not completed, at least started and up to date) no later than July of 2017. There is a state requirement that seventh graders must have Hepatitis B Series (3 shots) and be current in the series, a Tdap immunization and second measles immunization. When your child has received the necessary immunizations, obtain a completed Certification of Immunization Form and return it to Mrs. Lee in the Main Office as soon as possible. We would appreciate your child getting his/her immunization requirements at the earliest possible convenience. Feel free to call me to check your child’s status. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE. Thank you. Ellen Lee, Registrar Hinson Middle School 258-4682 Ext. 53017
