Krasnoyarsk is located on the banks of the Yenisei −the richest river in Russia and one of the greatestrivers in the world.

Three cities as big as Paris can easily fit in theterritory of Krasnoyarsk.

The symbol of the city is a lion. It expresses strength andcourage. The lion is holding a sickle and a shoveldemonstrating the main occupation of Krasnoyarskinhabitants - agriculture and mining, especially gold.

Krasnoyarsk is the easternmost of all Russian citieswith a million-plus residents.

The Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station – is thefirst station on the Yenisei River, one of the ten largestoperating hydroelectric power stations in the world. You can see it on a 10-ruble banknote, 1997 specimen.

The Paraskeva Pyatnitsa Chapel, a symbol of Krasnoyarsk,is located on Karaulnaya hill. It is one of the highestviewpoints of the city. City guests are very fond of takingphotos against the background of the chapel holdinga 10-ruble banknote in their hand.

Famous talented and outstanding people of Krasnoyarsk are:the opera singer Dmitri Hvorostovsky, artist Andrey Pozdeev, painter Vasily Surikov, writer Viktor Astafiev, choreographerMikhail Godenko, and freestyle wrestler Ivan Yarygin.

Some Krasnoyarsk merchants could aord to have businesscards made of pure gold. The Gold mine owner, NikolaiMyasnikov paid five rubles for each business card, but hecould spend this money on 16 kilograms of sturgeon caviar. There was also Gavrila Masharov, who discovered more than100 gold placers, earned millions and had the status of therichest man in Siberia. The merchant ordered a medal with theinscription "Emperor of all Taiga" – so then he received thenickname of Taiga Napoleon. According to legend, the medalweighed more than five kilograms and the merchant neverwore it.
