Order Book
Each of the headings include an evaluation of each segment’s order book as of 31 March 2005. This is calculated ascontractually committed work secured compared with the budgeted revenue for the forthcoming year. It does not includeany assessment of likely work from framework contracts already in place. This is the most appropriate measure of orderbook for our type of business. In addition an assessment of order book quality is given with regard to the nature of themarket in which the business operates and the value and length of projects which the business normally undertakes.

Significant Projects
MoD – Future Rapid Effects System (FRES)In November 2004 Atkins was awarded the System House role to manage the initial, two year, assessment phase of the £14bn programme to develop the next generation of medium weight armoured vehicles for the Military.
United Utilities – AMP 4 ProgrammeIn a joint venture with Galliford and Costain, Atkins is working alongside United Utilities employees in new seamlessintegrated work streams, covering design, construction and commissioning work as part of the five year, £2.9bn AMP4investment programme which started in 2005.
MoD – Colchester GarrisonThis design contract is one of the largest carried out by Atkins in recent times and involves the full range of multi-discipline design skills, architecture, building services engineering, civil and structural engineering.
This project is one of the Ministry of Defence's largest accommodation upgrade projects. The new Colchester Garrisonwith around 137 buildings will provide fully supported, modern, high quality, living accommodation and working,training, recreation, education and welfare facilities for approximately 3,500 military and over 2,000 civilian staff.
AWE – Design HouseWith the Government announcing an additional £3bn investment over the next three years, our support to AWEcontinues to grow. In addition to our existing work we have been appointed as one of AWE’s ‘Design Houses’ for major new facilities and infrastructure. Design work has commenced and will complete in the next six to eight years.We remain the largest supplier of professional services to AWE.
Airbus – A380 CheckstressAs a strategic supplier to Airbus we are providing wing certification for the A380, due to enter service in 2006, one of the largest design analysis projects ever sub-contracted by Airbus. We also have a team working on the latest aircraftproject; the A350 building on technologies developed on the A380.

30% APS Allied Inc – Bay Pointe DevelopmentWe are about to start work as architect and design consultant for the Bay Pointe in Cardiff – set to be the tallestresidential complex in Wales.
Royal Caribbean International – Next Generation Cruise LinerWe are providing the Interior design of several key elements and public spaces of the new generation of cruise liner, for Royal Caribbean, including a gymnasium, restaurant and royal promenade hall. This is set to be the world’s largestCruise Liner.
Kensington Developments – Lytham St Annes Redevelopment
After winning an International RIBA competition for a master plan we prepared and submitted a detailed planningapplication on behalf of the client for the largest single proposed residential and mixed use development in the whole of the North of England.
It is the first and very important step in what should be a long involvement for Atkins. Teams from across the countryprovided architecture, engineering, environmental and traffic expertise for this £600m scheme. It comprises over 3,000apartments arranged around a series of themed areas, canals and open spaces, and includes a multiplex cinema,children's park, fitness centre, observatory, open markets and ice rink
British Energy – Technical Support AllianceAs a Technical Support Alliance Partner we are working with British Energy’s Engineering Division developing it’s processes and systems with a strong focus on better technical specifications, improved programme management andbetter use of the supply chain. Intrinsically muilti-disciplinery the work requires input from a wide range of technicalspecialists including structural integrity, safety case support, central instrumentation and general mechanical engineering support.
Transport for London – Trafalgar Square PedestrianisationThe multi-award winning redesign of Trafalgar Square is the first phase of the ‘World Squares for All’ Masterplan areawhich also covers Parliament Square and Whitehall. The multi-discipline team led by Atkins, with Norman Foster andPartners, has also been awarded a six month feasibility study to redesign Parliament Square.
Environment Agency – Framework Contracts
We have two key frameworks under which we provide a wide range of services assisting in the delivery of the capitalprogramme for flood defence improvements, the national flood mapping strategy and catchment flood managementplans over the next five years.

Port Talbot resignalling July 2005 – March 2007Design, installation, testing and commissioning of the replacement of 235 signals over 22 miles of line as part of the first phase of the South Wales programme of upgrades.
Network Rail Structures Examination April 2003 – March 2013Two ten year contracts to provide annual structural examinations of some 15,500 structures in Scotland, and 19,000structures in a triangular area of the country stretching from London out to Exeter and Folkestone.

Atkins’ multi-discipline work on the £140 million West Coast Main Line resignalling and telecoms scheme in the Rugbyarea was recognised at a major national rail industry awards ceremony in March 2005 with the presentation of the‘Achievement through Teamwork’ award.
The citation states, “Tight timescales meant that a pragmatic, yet forward looking, solution had to be arrived at for theresignalling of the Rugby segment of the West Coast main Line. The pressure to complete the project meant working to a very tight deadline and the team had to deliver very high levels of productivity and output.”

Durrat Al Bahrain
In 2004 Atkins won a major project for the master planning, design and project management of Durrat Al Bahrain, a new resort comprising 13 manmade islands. The project will offer a world class residential leisure and touristdestination. When complete, it will have a resident population of up to 30,000 plus 2,000 visitors.
World Trade Centre Bahrain
Destined to become Bahrain’s first iconic structure; its elegant 240m high twin towers have three horizontally mountedwind turbines – a first in the world. Atkins is providing all architectural and engineering design services and sitesupervision for this 120,000 sq m office and commercial complex. Completion is due in summer 2006.
Durrah Tower
Atkins Abu Dhabi team have secured the comprehensive architectural and engineering design and supervision servicesfor this prestigious building for the Al Hamid Group, one of our key Clients in the UAE’s Capital. Primarily residential,this 80 storey building will be one of the tallest buildings in the Region.
Bar Al Jissah Hotel and Spa, Muscat
Scheduled to open as Shangri-La's first fully integrated destination resort in Oman in late 2005 the resort includes 680 rooms in three hotels with a full range of facilities for both business and leisure guests. Atkins developed an initialarchitectural concept and is providing all schematic and detailed architectural and engineering design services and sitesupervision. Because of the isolated nature of the site, the design uniquely includes a reverse osmosis system for on site water and a sewage treatment plant as well as an inter-resort tunnel and all access roads, all of which have beendesigned by Atkins.
Ministry of Transport – Dukhan Highway Project
This project forms a significant part of the primary road network development for the State of Qatar. Atkins wasappointed for the Design and Supervision of a high quality six lane highway from east to west coast of the country. The scope includes ten grade separated interchanges, along with seven camel underpasses, a novel concept anywhereelse in the world, but critically important in the Middle East is to ensure safety of all road users.
International Design Competition of New Airport Complex in Yinchuan, China
Atkins have won a design competition for a new airport complex. The project involves the master planning plus thedevelopment of a new 30,000 square metre terminal building and refurbishment of the original into an internationalterminal providing a total of 75,000 square metre space. It will be the first phase of a plan to become one of the maintransport hubs of China's initiative to develop northwestern provinces.
Hong Kong Railway Extension - Kowloon Southern Link (North Section)
Appointed by Kowloon Canton Railway Corporation, Hong Kong, as Lead Design Consultant with overall responsibilityfor the preliminary, scheme and tender design of the KSL (North Section) comprising 1.9km of twin track running tunnelsand incorporating a new West Kowloon underground railway station and Yau Ma Tei tunnel ventilation building.
Hainan Island : Master Plan and Tourism Strategy for Sanya
This scenic tropical island is rapidly gaining an international reputation as a tourist destination to rival Thailand andMalaysia and is attracting major international investments. Atkins has been appointed to complete the Masterplan forSanya City, the tourism center of Hainan, and also to develop a tourism strategy for the island, targeted at both thenational and international markets.

In the Middle East, Atkins has established a strong brand in the building design market with a significantnumber of high quality architectural building projects. The business climate is maturing rapidly and problemspresented by the lack of a clear legal and commercialframework have been largely overcome. Strong growth is expected to continue for at least another decade withcurrent estimates that China will need to accommodate150 million new urban residents over this period (source:Planning Bureau Chinese Government). As China’s citiesmature new opportunities are arising for IntelligentTransport Systems and other high added value solutions – creating new opportunities for Atkins.

China
Key clients include Provincial and Municipal governments,private sector developers and investment agencies(including MTRC from Hong Kong) Metro companies and Municipal Operators in China as well as multinationalinvestment Groups. We are working increasing with theWorld Bank, mainly on strategic planning for transportand related infrastructure. Geographically there is a cleartrend for our business to expand from the primary citiestowards the secondary cities, which now account for60% of our workload. Atkins provides independent facilities management (FM) services to the public and private sectors. Our business focuses on niche markets such as the MoD and selected private sector clients. In the private sector we manage and coordinate the provision of facilities services as a Managing Agent, whilst withinthe public sector we provide facilities services directly, as a Managing Contractor. Our business is entirelyfocused on the UK.
