Members of AEDD’s ACTS in the Rock drama troupe put
on a great show about greedy Old Man Winter who tricked
Santa into thinking he should move Christmas to July. Upset
by this news, the rest of the holidays went before the Holiday
Logistics Commission to sort it all out. The dance finale
performance roused the crowd to a standing ovation.
ACTS in the Rock is directed by occupational therapists Jennifer Moore and Brittany
Saviers, who are also members of the AEDD Auxiliary. This is their second year working
with performers our Adult Skills Training Center. ACTS is a program for individuals with
disabilities designed to provide opportunities for participation in the
performing arts. Participants are encouraged to contribute in all
areas of the creative process.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS - Acts in the Rock will perform
again at the 4th annual Curtain Call for a Cause event on Thursday,
May 29th at the Argenta Community Theater in North Little Rock.

On December 29th the Arkansas
Democrat Gazette ran an article
regarding our “Seats for Safety”
fundraising campaign to replace all of
the child car and booster seats at our
Children’s Learning Center preschool.
This article resulted in additional gifts
totaling over $1,400! We have now
replaced all of the seats we currently
use, with reserves for new students as
well.
THANK YOU FROM AEDD AND
ALL OF OUR KIDS!
Over 200 AEDD employees attended the first annual acknowledgement banquet organized by the HR department on January 17th. Awards were given in areas of excellence and for years of service. A delicious dinner was donated by US Foods. Directors served as servers to staff in their departments to show their appreci-ation for their hard work and dedication. AEDD was founded in 1971, employs over 300 people, serves over 450 individuals with developmental disabilities and has an annual economic impact in Pulaski County of over $60 million dollars.

Seven guys in our group home (“Red
House”) are like brothers. They are great
friends and LOVE Razorback football!
They were excited to have the
opportunity to attend the Razorback -v-
Mississippi State Bulldogs game at War
Memorial Stadium in November. They
cheered as the Razorbacks fought hard
against their SEC opponent, only to get
beat in overtime. This was the first
Razorback game for some of these guys
who sported their best Razorback
apparel in support of their team. The
smiles on their faces lasted long past the
game, even though their Razorbacks
could not pull off a win. A big thank
you to an anonymous donor for the
game tickets
that allowed
this group to
create lasting
memories!
Funds raised at Hawgs for a Cause along with a
cash donation, book drive and volunteers from Regions
Bank made our dream of establishing a library at
Sammie Gail Sanders Children's Learning Center a
reality. Volunteers participating in Region Bank’s
“Share-the-Good” week spent a day putting together
shelves and furniture along with unpacking, labeling
and sorting books. At the end of the day the kids made
their first trip to the new library to hear a story and
enjoy all the wonderful books on display.
We received many generous gifts to AEDD in
honor of Jim Hinson, former CFO and
board member at AEDD, who passed
away on Christmas Day 2013. Jim not
only dressed up as Santa Claus each Christmas season, to the joy of
many children who told him their Christmas wishes, but he also
devoted much of his life to advocating for those with special needs.
We will genuinely miss him and are proud to dedicate the new
children's library to his memory.
Donations in Jim's honor, unless otherwise requested, will be
designated to supporting the new library at the preschool. Donations will be used to
purchase books suitable for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old to add to our
collection. The preschool staff and children are so excited about the library. This
special place will provide a resource for the kids to be introduced to the wonderful
world of books and gain a love of listening to stories and learning to read.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
We are accepting new or used books appropriate for children ages 6 weeks
to 5 years old Make a donation to the library for new books to be purchased in your
name or in honor of someone. You can do this online at
http://www.aeddinc.org/supportdonate.html, mail your gift to AEDD, Inc.,
Children's Center Library, 105 E. Roosevelt Road, Little Rock, AR 72206,
email [email protected], or call 501-801-3646.
Our Children’s Learning Center not only supports
the kids we serve,
but their families as well. Each Thanksgiving the preschool holds
a food drive and accepts cash donations to supply families in need
of assistance with ingredients for Thanksgiving Dinner. Generous
donors helped the school provide fifteen families with a delicious
Thanksgiving meal including a turkey and box filled with enough
food for a family of four.
Sammie Gail Sanders Children’s Learning Center and
the families served are thankful for everyone’s spirit of giving
during this time of the year.

JINGLE JUBILEE HOLIDAY PARADE 2013
Gusty winds and cold temperatures did not keep the auxiliary from participating in the Little Rock Christmas Parade. “The Night Before Christmas” themed float reflected scenes from the book and a slogan reading, “we are dreaming of
sugarplums and better lives for people with disabilities.” Auxil-iary members create a float to enter in the parade each year to help promote AEDD in the community and provide an opportunity for the adults and children we serve to participate in a fun holiday activity.
Hawgs for a Cause (cont’d) North Little Rock Funeral Home was presented with the “Champion for a
Cause Award” at our fifth annual Hawgs for a Cause fundraiser on October
17th. Hosted by the AEDD Auxiliary, Hawgs for a Cause raised over
$35,000! As tradition stands our guests “pigged out” on a roasted hog
dinner and all the trimmings, sponsored by Centennial Bank, US Foods and
Ben E Keith. Thirsts were quenched with beverages donated by Glazer’s and
Premium Refreshment which flowed throughout the evening.
Celebrity newscaster Craig O’Neill got the laughs from his “Brother
Hogg” sermon and served as master of ceremonies and auctioneer. The live
auction was a huge success and included an awesome 3 night trip to New
York City in a condo overlooking Central Park donated by Angelica and John Rogers (which sold
twice!). Three lucky raffle winners won a Benelli Nova shotgun, diamond/sapphire necklace
and weekend getaway to Downstream Casino Resort. The pre-event VIP party, sponsored
by RX Catering, kicked off this fun event that continues to grow in popularity each year.
Thank you to our sponsors, donors and everyone that supported Hawgs for a Cause.
Proceeds from the event helped complete expansion of the sensory room at our Adult Skills
Training Center and open a new library at Sammie Gail Sanders Children’s Learning Center
preschool. Watch the mail for your “Save the Date” card for the 6th Annual Hawgs for a
Cause to be held October 16, 2014. Don’t miss out on the fun and supporting a great cause!
