Almighty God….

Christ our Passover Lamb has been offered for us, therefore we come to celebrate the festival. Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, with a sincere and true heart.

(page 120)

Merciful God….

The Gloria (page 121; hymnbook 756)

Let us pray

Christ our friend, you ask for our love in spite of our betrayal: Give us courage to embrace forgiveness, to know you again, and to trust ourselves in you. Amen.

MINISTRY OF THE WORD A reading from the book of Acts chapter 9 verses 1 to 6 Meanwhile Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any who belonged to the Way, men or women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. Now as he was going along and approaching Damascus, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” He asked, “Who are you, Lord?” The reply came, “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting. But get up and enter the city, and you will be told what you are to do.” For the word of the Lord thanks be to God

Psalm 30

I will exalt you, O Lord,

for you have drawn me up from the depths:

and have not suffered my foes to triumph over me.

O Lord my God, I cried to you:

and you have made me whole.

You brought me back, O Lord, from the land of silence:

you saved my life from among those that go down to the Pit.

Sing praises to the Lord, all you his faithful ones:

and give thanks to his holy name.

For if in his anger is havoc, in his good favour is life:

heaviness may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning.

In my prosperity I said ‘I shall never be moved:

your goodness, O Lord, has set me on so firm a hill.’

Then you hid your face from me:

and I was greatly dismayed.

I cried to you, O God:

and made my petition humbly to my Lord.

‘What profit is there in my blood, if I go down to the Pit:

can the dust give you thanks, or declare your faithfulness?

‘Hear, O Lord, and be merciful:

O Lord, be my helper.’

You have turned my lamentation into dancing:

you have put off my sackcloth and girded me with joy,

That my heart may sing your praise and never be silent:

O Lord my God, I will give you thanks for ever. For the word of the Lord thanks be to God

The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to John, chapter 21 beginning at the 1st verse. Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ

After these things Jesus showed himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias; and he showed himself in this way. Gathered there together were Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of his disciples. Simon Peter said to them, “I am going fishing.” They said to him, “We will go with you.” They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.

Just after daybreak, Jesus stood on the beach; but the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, “Children, you have no fish, have you?” They answered him, “No.” He said to them, “Cast the net to the right side of the boat, and you will find some.” So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in because there were so many fish. That disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on some clothes, for he was naked, and jumped into the sea. But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, only about a hundred yards off.

When they had gone ashore, they saw a charcoal fire there, with fish on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.” So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, a hundred fifty-three of them; and though there were so many, the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, “Come and have breakfast.” Now none of the disciples dared to ask him, “Who are you?” because they knew it was the Lord. Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish. This was now the third time that Jesus appeared to the disciples after he was raised from the dead.

When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my lambs.” A second time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” He said to

him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Tend my sheep.” He said to him the third time, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter felt hurt because he said to him the third time, “Do you love me?” And he said to him, “Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you.” Jesus said to him, “Feed my sheep. Very truly, I tell you, when you were younger, you used to fasten your own belt and to go wherever you wished. But when you grow old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will fasten a belt around you and take you where you do not wish to go.” (He said this to indicate the kind of death by which he would glorify God.) After this he said to him, “Follow me.”

For the Gospel of the Lord praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ

The Blessing of the Water

The Lord be with you. And also with you.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise.

We give you thanks that at the beginning of creation your Holy Spirit moved upon the waters to bring forth light and life. With water you cleanse and replenish the earth; you nourish and sustain all living things Thanks be to God.

We give you thanks that through the waters of the Red Sea you led your people out of slavery into freedom, and brought them through the river Jordan to new life in the land of promise.

Thanks be to God.

We give you thanks for your Son Jesus Christ: for his baptism by John, for his anointing with the Holy Spirit.

Thanks be to God.

We give you thanks that through the deep waters of death Jesus delivered us from our sins and was raised to new life in triumph.

Thanks be to God.

We give you thanks for the grace of the Holy Spirit who forms us in the likeness of Christ and leads us to proclaim your kingdom

Thanks be to God.

And now we give you thanks that you have called your servant Sofia to new birth in your Church through the waters of baptism.

Pour out your Holy Spirit in blessing and sanctify this water + so that those who are baptised in it may be made one with Christ in his death and resurrection. May they die to sin, rise to newness of life, and continue for ever in Jesus Christ our Lord, through whom we give you praise and honour in the unity of the Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

The Profession of Faith

I now ask you to affirm as yours the faith of the Church.

Do you believe in God the Father? I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

Do you believe in God the Son? I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord. who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose from the dead. He ascended into heaven, is seated at the right hand of the Father, and will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit? I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

This is the faith of the Church. This is our faith. We believe in one God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit

Sofia, I baptise you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Sofia is signed with the cross using oil blessed by the bishop at Easter.

Sofia I sign you with the sign of the cross to show that you are marked as Christ's own forever.

Live as a disciple of Christ, fight the good fight, finish the race, keep the faith.

Confess Christ crucified, proclaim his resurrection, look for his coming in glory.

A candle is presented to Sofia

God has brought you out of darkness into his marvellous light. Shine as a light in the world to the glory of God the Father.

God has called you into his Church We therefore receive and welcome you as a member with us of the body of Christ, as a child of the one heavenly Father, and as an inheritor of the kingdom of God.

The Greeting of Peace

We are the body of Christ His Spirit is with us. The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you.

The Sending out of God’s people

Most glorious Lord of life, we thank you that you nourish us in these Easter mysteries. Fill us with the Spirit of Love and unite us in faith, that we may witness to the resurrection and show your glory to all the world. Most loving God... you send us into the world you love. Give us grace to go thankfully and with courage in the power of your Spirit.

The Notices Final Hymn – 242 Lord of the Dance The Blessing and Dismissal The God of peace, who redeemed us through the resurrection of Christ, and has bought us out of slavery into everlasting freedom, give you joy and peace in faith and bring you to your eternal inheritance; and the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, be among you and remain with you always. Amen Life is short and we do not have much time to gladden the hearts of those who travel with us, so be swift to love, make haste to be kind and go in peace to love and serve the Lord. Alleluia! In the name of Christ. Alleluia! ***some thoughts from Rev. Mel I had a great time at our clergy conference this week. It can be quite an isolating job as a parish priest – even though you’re surrounded by people quite a lot of the time in every day work, there is nothing quite like the comforting ear of a colleague who is living out a role similar to your own. So, when the clergy of the Bendigo Diocese get together we really like to take advantage of the time we have together. As well as pastorally caring for each other – and having a laugh together, we also have the opportunity to hear from a guest speaker who guides us through either a new learning, or an updating of what we have learned in the past.

This year we had Dr Brian Douglas with us. He is a specialist in Eucharistic Theology – in other words, how God works in and through us as we celebrate with bread and wine. He shared some really great insights, and I am looking forward to continuing my reflections on what he gave us over the three days, and sharing them with you down the track. Despite our very different ways of ‘doing church’ throughout the diocese we managed to agree on many points, and learn from each other during the breakout sessions where we shared our own ideas and thoughts. We also heard from clergy as part of a ‘show and tell’ about what some of our parishes are up. It is really great to see the very different ways that God is being made known to various communities around the diocese. Our own Rev Neil Fitzgerald was one chosen to speak and part of his presentation was about the farm in North Korea that the Guilds of this parish provided donations to. He spoke glowingly about you all! I’ve been asked to present on our parish at Synod later in the month. If you have any photos that you feel show the true spirit of the parish please feel free to share them with me for my ‘show and tell’. Blessings and peace Mel
