*resistant to penicillin & some common antibiotics
-methicillin, amoxicillin, penicillin, oxacillin and many other antibiotics
*Some cases can be LIFE THREATENING while other cases are not serious infections
What is MRSA???
• Many healthy people carry staph without being infected by it
• 25-30% of people have staph bacteria in their noses
• Becomes an issue once it enters the body, typically through a cut infection
• Many cases of staph can be treated with antibiotics however certain strains of staph, such as MRSA are resistant to antibiotics
• MRSA causes more than 60% of staph infections
MRSA continued…
*Skin infections
*Infections/wounds may look like:• spider bites• infected turf burns•Boils•abscesses
Signs/ Symptoms
• AVOID CONTACT
• Touching the infection/drainage or surfaces that have come in contact with the infection/drainage
• MRSA bacteria can stay on surfaces for WEEKS
Transmission
Frequent hand washing Proper hygiene
• Showering after workouts•Do not share persona hygiene items•Do not participate with an infected skin wound/lesion
