Catholic Quotes—Words to Inspire the Faithful
"In whatever direction we go, God is there before us, calling to
us and coming to meet us." | Henri de Lubac
GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER
UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE

This Sunday, Jesus reminds us that "the harvest is abundant but
the laborers are few." As Catholic disciples, we are the laborers that
the Master is sending. All around us are opportuni es to share the
love and mercy of Jesus Christ our homes, our workplaces, our
neighborhoods, even our faith communi es! Lest we feel
unequipped for the task, Jesus gives us some advice.
"Carry no money bag, no sack, no sandals." We might not have a
theology degree or training in public speaking, but that doesn't
mean we can't share the Gospel. The power of God is at work in
simplicity. The disciples went forth with nothing as a reminder to
trust in the Providence of God. Say a li)le prayer that God will speak
through you and has a need for your gi*s, just as you are.
"Do not move about from one house to another." So much of the
life of Jesus was about rela onships. He modeled this a.tude by
journeying with his disciples. Here he makes the same
recommenda on to them, to remain with the same family for their
en re stay in the town. Break bread with others. Invite them to
coffee or a game night in your home. Sharing your faith isn't just
about saying the right thing, but loving well over me.
“The dust of your town that clings to our feet, even that we shake
off." Some mes we want to help someone, but for whatever
reason, they don't receive it well. Some mes people aren't interest-
ed in our efforts to invite them deeper into faith. When rejec on
happens, don't carry it with you. Don't let it overburden your heart.
Rejoice that you share in the mission of Christ, and keep on loving
the next person he places in your path!

CATHOLIC TRADITIONS EXPLAINED
Queson: What is Lec o Divina, and how is it associated with the
Benedic ne Monas c tradi on, whose founder, St. Benedict, we
honor on July 11?
Answer: Benedict desired his monks to live in community, praying
the Liturgy of the Hours together, contempla ng sacred texts, and
doing manual labor. The monks developed a technique to facilitate a
spiritual and devo onal reading of the Bible known as Lec o Divina,
the holy reading of a text. This method encourages the reader to
hear the biblical text with an open heart and focus on whatever God
wants to highlight and then apply it to daily life.
There are varia ons on Lec o Divina, but essen ally, the technique
consists of a threestep process of reflec on. When the reflec on is
done with a group, the responses are shared by all the par cipants.
Once the text is selected, it is read medita vely, and the following
are then explored: a word or phrase that a)racts you; how and
where the content of this reading touches your life today; what you
believe that God wants you to do during this coming week (month,
year, life me).
Thanks to Benedict, the Chris an community has been gi*ed with
this special way of entering into the biblical text. This week, use the
Lec o Divina process on one of the readings for the coming Sunday
and make a note of the life connec ons you are making. How is this
reflec on on the biblical text drawing you closer to God and others?

INSPIRATION FOR THE WEEK

Jesus tells his disciples, "I am sending you
like lambs among wolves." Ge.ng people
to see the truth about who they are is not
always easy or welcomed. Some people
want to believe that they have life under
control and they do not need any further
advice, direc on, or challenge from
others. Being heralds of the Gospel means
doing precisely that. We come with a
message that is not always welcome or
desired by our sisters and brothers. Yet, it
is desperately needed. People need to be
reminded of who they are, who God is,
and the necessity of repentance for
entering the Kingdom of God. It is not
about what we want but what God wants.
We are called to be peacemakers and
laborers for jus ce and mercy. Are you
willing to bring this challenging message
to those who may be indifferent or even
hos le to hearing it?
Sharing the Gospel For
the Kids
Jesus sent out 72 of his
followers to spread the good
news about God. They were
not to bring anything with them no food,
no extra clothes or shoes, not even money
to spend. They were to visit strangers and
completely depend on God to give them
what they needed. That took a lot of faith!

Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
In the Gospel today we see how Jesus sent
his Apostles out two by two. In this spirit,
the Society of St. Vincent de Paul members
“go out two by two” to visit those who are
poor and needy in their homes. It is there,
in the family se.ng, that Vincen ans listen
offer humble advice, and render assistance.
Know that the members of the Society of
St. Vincent de Paul bring your gi; directly

ST. BRUNO BOOK CLUB
All parishioners from St. Bruno and St. Paul
are invited to join our group! We meet the
second Tuesday of the month at St. Bruno's
at 9 AM in the Family Room.
The discussion of the book begins with
prayer, coffee and snacks a full stomach
helps the brain! There is a discussion
leader who provides informa on about the
author and the book. All are free to share
their comments, which always leads to an
interes ng conversa on. The books vary
from novels to fic onal history to spiritual
to memoirs a great variety! You don't
even have to read the book, just come for
the conversa on and sharing! It's a great
way to meet parish members, socialize and
