A new year – 2020. We may not like it, but change is inevitable. The reality of change is the only unchanging thing.
Some of us have had such a year in 2019 that we’re saying, “I’m glad for a new year.” Some may be saying, “I like my life just like it is; I’m comfortable; don’t upset my ‘apple cart.’” Yet, we know change will come.
I think we can take solace in the words of Hebrews 13:8, “Jesus Christ, the same yester-day, and today and forever.” He is our Constant. We’ve been reminded at Christmas that Jesus is Emmanuel, God with us. We are not alone. His promises are faithful.
As we enter 2020 may we pray for clarity of vision and direction – 20-20 vision. May Jesus Christ be our Vision. May we have His eyes to see life, to see others, and to see ourselves.
As the new year begins, we have some changes of church officers. To those who are out-going, to those who are new or serving in new positions and to those who are con-tinuing in positions of service, we say “thank you.” The new 2020 Officers List is availa-ble on the church website
http://firstumcmocksville.org/clientimages/57726/2020%20Officers.pdf
As we enter the new year, may we reflect on our personal goals for fulfilling our God-given purpose. As we enter a new year, pray for us as a church to be faithful in God’s calling.
May we let our lights so shine before others that they may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16)
Pastor Glenn

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
CHILDCARE MINISTRIES
Wow! What an amazing year 2019 was. We really got the opportunity to serve a lot of
kiddos and their families and meet them right where they were and that was an incredi-
ble BLESSING and why we do what we do. We have really become a family and it’s
amazing to see the kids serve others and be able to serve their families. We are looking
forward to 2020 and the excitement it brings and summer day camp information will be
out before you know it. We hope everyone has a blessed 2020 and if we can ever serve
you through Childcare Ministries, please reach out!

Happy New Year, my Friends. Another year of musical blessings, possibilities and op-portunities is upon us. First, let’s talk about the blessings. FUMC is truly blessed to have such a dedicated group of talented singers with an incredible love of sharing God’s word through music. Yes, you all know that I’m talking about our Chancel Choir. I am so thankful for all that they give on a weekly basis to uplift our Worship Services. And how about those pre-cious children that participate in Choir every Tuesday? You have seen them share their joy of praising the Lord with song. What a blessing they continue to be. Now let’s think about the musical possibilities we are fortunate to have in our church. We have individuals willing to share their talent, whether it is filling in on the piano, organ, playing an instrument or singing a solo. Are there more of you out there that would like to share your gift? Get in touch with me and let me know how you could contribute, or how you would like to share in the music ministry of our church. There is always room for more. The possibilities are endless! Which brings us to our musical opportunities. A new opportunity is just around the corner. That’s right. Handbells are returning! If you are interested in playing hand-bells, or have thought about it and would like some more information, please email Lou at: [email protected]. We will have an informational meeting later in January to get things started. May your New Year be filled with Praise! Lou Wilson

YOUNG AT HEART
The Young at Heart Bunch will begin 2020 with a meal in the Family Life Center on Tuesday, Janu-ary 21, beginning at 12:30 pm. Everyone who attends is asked to bring a food item for the lunch-eon. You are asked to bring ONE item of your choice: either a pot of soup, some type of salad, a plate of sandwiches, or a dessert. After lunch we'll learn about the great trips we will enjoy in 2020. After seeing the list of trips, we'll play a type of bingo with winners of each game receiving a free gift related to one of the trips for 2020 such as a free movie ticket, admission to Reynolda House, admission to Ayr Mount a grand home in Hillsborough similar to the Linwood Manor we visited in December. You could win a ticket for a bus tour in Charleston, SC, or a voucher for a tick-et to the Barn Dinner Theatre to see "The Mahalia Jackson Story", our trip in February. Come learn about the Young at Heart group's 2020 schedule and the fun we have on each month's trip. Come join us on January 21. The Young at Heart Group's trip for February is to the Barn Dinner Theatre in Greensboro on Tues-day, February 11. We'll leave the church promptly at 11:45 am and should return to the church at approximately 4:45 pm. Admission cost is all inclusive and pays for a delicious buffet meal and then the wonderful live presentation of "The Mahalia Jackson" story. The play will be filled with songs we'll all enjoy as well as the life story of Mahalia Jackson. The cost of this wonderful trip is $51.00 and includes the cost of the fabulous buffet including beverages and desserts, the gratuity/tip for service staff, taxes, and the cost of the show. You can't delay in paying your $51.00 admis-sion fee. Full payment is due to the Barn Theatre by Tuesday, January 21. Make your check to FUMC by Sunday, January 19 with a notation in the memo line for Young at Heart. The Barn is nearly a sell-out for this show and we could reserve only 25 guaranteed seats. Reserve early with the church office if you want to go on this trip. Missions will host a Wednesday night meal for Honduras Medical Missions. January 15th at 5:30 pm in the FLC. The menu will be announced soon! Mary Circle will meet Monday, January 20th at 2 pm in the FLC conference room. United Methodist Men meet January 12th at 7:30 AM for the monthly breakfast meeting.
