EXHUMATION & REINTERMENT OF GRAVESAT CHOA CHU KANG MUSLIM CEMETERY

REINTERMENT1. Remains will be brought to Choa Chu Kang Muslim Cemetery for reinterment once the exhumation is completed.

2. You will receive documentation from Muis on where the remains have been reinterred to (including block and plot number).

3. The remains will be reinterred into: • 8 remains per plot for claimed graves • 16 remains per plot for unclaimed gravesYou can witness the reinterment of the remains.

UNCLAIMED GRAVESIn cases where no family member claims for the remains of the deceased, these graves will be categorised as unclaimed graves. All details of the grave will be recorded. Unclaimed remains from the graves in Blocks 6, 7*, 8, 9, 19 & 20 will still be exhumed and reinterred at Choa Chu Kang Muslim Cemetery.

MUSLIM GRAVES LOCATED AT BLOCKS6 / 7*/ 8 / 9 / 19 & 20

To ensure sufficient land for future burials, NEA has undertaken exhumation programmes at Choa Chu Kang Muslim Cemetery. Exhumations at Blocks 3, 4 and 5 were completed in 2013.

Muslim graves at Blocks 6, 7*, 8, 9, 19 & 20 will be exhumed, beginning 26 Sep 2018. The remains will be reinterred at Choa Chu Kang Muslim Cemetery. National Environment Agency (NEA) has appointed Majlis Ugama Islam Singapura (Muis) to carry out the registration, exhumation and reinterment services for Phase 6.

Family members are invited to claim the remains of their Next-of-Kin (called the “Principal Deceased”) buried in these sections of the cemetery from 26 Sep 2017. The claim period will last for one year. Costs of the exhumation and reinterment will be borne by the Government.

SUPPLEMENTARY GRAVESFamily members may also claim remains of other family members buried outside Blocks 6, 7*, 8, 9, 19 & 20 who are related to the principal deceased so that the remains from the same family can be reinterred in the same or adjacent grave plots. These family members must meet the minimum burial period of 15 years as at 26 Sep 2018.

Deceased in this category must be related to the principal deceased.

REGISTRATION1. Register at the Exhumation Office from 26 Sep 2017 at Masjid Pusara Aman, 11 Lim Chu Kang Road Singapore 719452.

Family members are required to present their NRIC and relevant documents such as death, burial certificate or others

2. After registration, you will be brought to the said grave for verification. This will be done on the same day as registration, weather permitting. The entire process is estimated to take up to 6 hours, depending on the number of graves claimed.

3. Commencing 10 Oct 2017, you can book an appointment for registration online at www.pusara.sg and present yourself at Masjid Pusara Aman on your appointed date and time.

4. You can still walk-in and register at Masjid Pusara Aman from 8.30 am to 12 noon, Monday to Friday. However, priority for verification will be given to online bookings. Registration is closed on Sundays and Public Holidays.

5. You are given one year until 25 Sep 2018 to register.

EXHUMATION1. Muis will notify you on the date of exhumation. You are encouraged to witness the exhumation process. If you are unable to do so, you need to notify Muis two weeks in advance via 6238-4504 or via email at info@pusara.sg. You will also need to notify Muis in writing for any changes to your address.

2. The graves will be dug until the original soil (liang lahad) is reached to recover the remains, if any. The remains will then be shrouded individually in white cloth and reinterred.

3. Unless requested, tombstones will be disposed off-site three days before exhumation.

4. There is no religious requirement that special prayers (such as talkin) be performed for the exhumed remains.

REINTERMENT OUTSIDE SINGAPOREThose who wish to reinter the remains outside Singapore may apply for a Coffin Permit for exportation from NEA at the following address:
