Safety Accomplishments

Safety is FAA’s primary mission: Goal to achieve lowest possible accident rate

and to constantly improve safety accomplished through: – Three year average commercial accident rate of 0.22 per 100,000 departures– Reduction in accidents in Alaska– Decline in runway incursions, including most serious runway incursions

Capacity Accomplishments

Goal to work with local governments and airspace users to provide airspace system capacity that meets projected demand in environmentally sound manner addressed by: – Adding new airport runways which has a direct impact on

increasing capacity to include Houston and Orlando

– Working with carriers serving major metropolitan areas and corridors that most affect total system delays such as carriers serving Chicago O’Hare

International Leadership Accomplishments

Goal to increase safety and capacity of global civil aerospace system in environmentally sound manner accomplished through:

– Three new bilateral agreements with Brazil, Singapore, and Iceland

– Increased technical and financial assistance to developing countries - Helping Afghanistan and Iraq rebuild aviation systems

– Collaboration with ICAO to ensure adoption of economically sound environmental standards

Organizational Excellence Accomplishments

Goal to ensure the success of the agency’s mission through stronger leadership, better trained workforce, enhanced cost control measures and improved decision making based on reliable data accomplished by:

– Continuing to implement an automated financial management system

– Providing training to our executives, managers and employees

Flight Standards

Is key player in supporting FAA’s four goals areas of Safety, Capacity, International Leadership, and Organizational Excellence.

Has safety as primary goal. Will continue to improve oversight of air

carriers, training centers and repair stations while enforcing safety regulations targeting areas posing greatest risk to safety.
