Our Goals
1. To advance member knowledge and the ability to effectively and efficiently manage the operations of America’s public sector facilities and grounds.

2. To influence public policy that will strengthen consideration for sound environmental practices, technology applications, economic impacts, and stewardship of facilities and grounds.

3. To promote APWA as the brand name for credible information on public works and the preferred choice for professional membership.

Support the development of educational programs, particularly Congress activities, which address
the professional and technical needs of the facilities and grounds
industry.

Expand awareness of APWA Congress networking opportunities, including committee meetings and roundtable
discussions.
Facilities & Grounds Committee
Expand member information sharing activities through publications, periodicals, and the Internet.
Submit or arrange for 5-7 articles for the APWA Reporter.

Work with the Government Affairs Department in the Washington, DC
office to monitor legislation and regulatory action proposed at the federal level which may have an
impact on our members.

Develop new position statements, and monitor existing ones, for adoption by
the APWA Board which state the accepted position of APWA and may be
offered to Congressional representatives during periods of debate and rule making on issues which will impact local agencies.

Seek projects where coordination and cooperation can occur between APWA and other associations which
will benefit both memberships.

Inspire excellence and recognize
outstanding work through award of the Professional Manager of the Year Award to a deserving APWA
member.

Monitor the latest technologies and products in facilities and grounds and
provide the findings to the membership through the Operations infoNOW
community.

Serve as the “center of expertise” on facilities and grounds issues for
the membership.

WHO CAN SERVE ON THE FACILITIES AND GROUNDS
COMMITTEE?• Every APWA member is eligible to serve.
• Nominations for appointment to the committee are advertised each year.
• Members may nominate themselves, be nominated by their Chapter, At-Large Director, or a Board Member.
• Nominees submit an on-line application.

HOW MANY MEMBERS SERVE ON THE FACILITIES AND GROUNDS
COMMITTEE?
• There are six members with high levels of expertise in their fields.
• An At-Large Director, who serves as a Board Liaison, and a Staff Liaison also attend the meetings.

HOW LONG IS THE TERM OF SERVICE?
• Members are appointed for one two-year term.
• There is a maximum of three terms, or six years for each member.

HOW OFTEN AND WHERE DO THEY MEET?
• The Committee meets monthly by conference call.
• There are two face-to-face meetings each year, one at Congress (participant’s expense) and one in the Spring in Kansas City (APWA’s expense).
