FACET is powered on KoBo Toolbox -- part of the Open Data Kit (ODK) set of tools :

 Developed by Harvard and hosted on UNOCHA server for the humanitarian and development community Open source/Free

 Build a form off/online; Collect data on a mobile; Upload to server;

Aggregate and extract for analysis/reporting

 Programmed in Excel using the XLSform survey conception standard

 Kobo is the most widely used mobile data collection tool in the humanitarian sector for various survey and monitoring needs

August 2017: 75’000 User accounts; 12.6M survey forms filled in & uploaded.

• Pre-coded XLS form for Schools and Health Facilities can be adapted to the situation: administrative levels, additional questions (Expanded)

• Constraints, hints and skip options used to limit errors andfacilitate the survey are already coded in FACET

• Different language options (EN, FR) possible at any time of thedata collection or analysis;

• Each WASH service level is calculated by FACET and displayed on the smartphone at the end of the survey

• Improved vs. unimproved latrine?

• What is a protected well/spring vs. an unprotected well/spring?

• Functional vs. Non-functional toilet?

Experience: Preparation

• Going through the process of using the JMP questions and definitions in FACET supports user learning and results can catalyze advocacy with stakeholders at the national level

• Humanitarian resources are often channeled to health care facilities & schools—FACET helps introduce the JMP indicators across the response-relief-development continuum.

• FACET provides an opportunity to set a baseline and monitor over the course of an intervention, however it is not an individual facility improvement tool like WASH FIT (WHO) of WASHCON (Emory).

Mapping Core Questions to the Service Ladders for WASH in Schools Responses from the core questions can be mapped to the JMP service ladders as

shown in the following table. The “Advanced Service” level is to be defined at

national level and is excluded from the table.
