Hello to our parents, caregivers and families,

Our term keeps rolling along, with little sign of it slowing down… We have enjoyed much celebration over the past few weeks, which all begun on Thursday 8th August, when our Wakakirri performers strutted their stuff at the Perth Concert Hall. Sitting in the crowd with the parents, caregivers, family and friends of our students was a wonderful experience, with it being one of the most memorable of my career in education to date. I congratulate our wonderful student performers, as well as Mrs McGhee, Mrs Neville, Mrs Moorman and their amazing band of parents and volunteers. A special mention for the awards won on the night.

Swimming lessons are in full swing, with students braving a range of weather to engage this valuable learning opportunity. It has been great to hear of the students enjoying their time, as well as those upholding our values of showing respect, being safe and having high standards, whilst in public. There have been some students however that have not maintained their positive approach to displaying these values and hence, have remained at school during some of their lessons. I think we’d all agree that maintaining our high standards, especially in public, is essential to ensure everyone knows that we are a great school.

Hooray to SWAN, who just beat MANDOON and HAMERSLEY, to win the 2019 Faction Athletics Carnival. A great day was had by all, especially the spectators, some of whom also joined in the fun. Well done to everyone who participated, and congratulations to any students who won a ribbon or a medal. Special thanks to Mr Oliphant for his work in leading this event, and his extra early helpers of Mrs McGhee and Mr Downey, who arrived in the dark to help begin setting up. We look forward to our students now competing in the Interschool Carnival later this term.

Each day, it is great to see the amount of students and families walk, ride, skate or scoot to school. An active lifestyle helps our students to learn and build strong relationships. However, I am concerned with the number of students who ride without a helmet. I understand that ‘being cool’ impacts our students decision-making, but it is our responsibility, as adults, to model and reinforce the benefits of safety equipment when riding, skating or scooting. The value “We are SAFE” directs our effort in this space and I urge you to make sure your child wears a helmet each day that they ride to school. We don’t want one of our students injured through us not looking out for them.

Earlier this week, we engaged in a School Review, whereby two Department of Education staff visited to interview key staff, students and community members, to ascertain if we are indeed, working hard to make our school the best it can be. Prior to the visit, our staff, as well as the School Council, engaged in self-assessment processes to highlight and celebrate successes and illustrate plans for ongoing improvement. It was a current theme that over the past 12 months, we have developed and implemented richer, more rigorous processes to strengthen our values, communication, behaviour management, policies, decision-making and feedback. In the next few weeks, we will receive a report which, we trust, will verify our self-assessment on areas of effectiveness and planned improvement. We are a school that have a number of things to celebrate, however, we also have areas requiring improvement. Positively, we have a clear idea of how we are going to make those improvements. We look forward to the support of parents, caregivers and the wider community, as we take this journey together.

Regards

Mike Mount-Bryson

HELP MATTERS!

“I don't want to live in the kind of world where we don't look out for each other. Not just the people that are close to us, but anybody who needs a helping hand. I cant change the way anybody else thinks, or what they choose to do, but I can do my bit.” ― Charles de lint (Author)

Seasons for Growth Parent Program:

Supporting your child following grief, loss and change.

Parent Invitation Lockridge Primary School is delighted be offering a new program for parents this term – the Seasons for

Growth Parent Program. The school has offered the small-group Seasons for Growth program for children and

young people in the past, and is excited to be able to offer the opportunity for parents to have the same

small-group support, to help their children and family to cope better with changes such as separation, death and

other family changes.

The program provides an opportunity for you to reflect on the experiences of changes in your family from your

child’s perspective, and to explore ideas and strategies that might help you support your child/ren through the

changes happening in your family. School Chaplain Rachel Kelly has recently completed training for this

program and is looking for expressions of interest from parents that would like to take part.

The sessions will be held at the school in a small group of at least three parents. It will be held over 2 x2 hour

sessions (dates TBA). All participants will receive their own program workbook. The program is FREE and

morning/afternoon tea provided.

If you are interested in being a part of the Seasons for Growth program, please fill out the form below to

express your interest. Forms can be given in to the school office or emailed to [email protected].

Many thanks, Rachel Kelly Mike Mount-Bryson School Chaplain and Seasons for Growth Facilitator School Principal
