South Piedmont Community College (SPCC) was originally designated as the Ansonville Industrial Education Center in November 1962 by action of the State Department of Public Instruction.

FACT ONEIn 1967, the Ansonville Industrial Education Center became Anson Technical Institute, a unit of the Department of Community Colleges of North Carolina.

FACT TWOIn 1981, Union Technical Education Consortium(UTEC) is formed between Anson and Stanly community colleges to provide service in Union County.

The college was named South Piedmont Community College on August 3, 1999, using one of the 441 di�erent names suggested during a contest held during July.
