Narrative Structure

• The News Presenter in this news report is George Alagiah. At the beginning of the report he addresses the viewers by talking straight into the camera, he starts off by explaining the headlines, this is seen as ‘Hard News’ because the urgent and important news has been overviewed at the beginning.

• In this News report the ‘Soft news’ is towards the end of the programme, these reports are not shown on the headlines as they are sometimes not relevant to Britain or to the economy but related to something not as important but still effects people. The soft news in this report is about coral reef’s being damaged.

Techniques used

• Vox pop – A vox pop is an interview that takes place between a resident of a local town or city relevant to the news taking place. In one of the main headlines a woman is interviewed about the fraud committed by Eric Illsley.

• At the beginning of this Vox pop there is a GV, a GV is a General view shot that films an area where something is taking place e.g. A High street. The GV in this report is of a local street in Barnsley, this shot is to set the scene of where the Vox pop is taking place.
