OBJECTIVES
The main objective of this course is to make students achieve a degree of competence in English corresponding tothe A2 level of CEF (Common European Framework). The focus will be on the use of basic grammatical structuresof English as well as on comprehension (reading and listening) and expression (speaking and writing).A2 description according to the CEF:- Can understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g.very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, employment).- Can communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a simple and direct exchange of information on familiarand routine matters.- Can describe in simple terms aspects of his/her background, immediate environment and matters in areas ofimmediate need.

Methodological adaptations for part-time students and students with disabilities and specialeducational needsPart-time students that cannot attend lectures regularly will have to do all the course activities (writingassignments 'essays', speaking test 'oral presentations', 'listening test') on the scheduled date. It will be required that they provide the lecturer with documentation for excused absence.

General clarifications on instruments for evaluation:Global assessment will be based on:1. Exam (50%). This exam will consist of:- Short answer questions (use of English, reading comprehension and vocabulary).- Long answer questions (grammar explanation).2. Speaking activity ('oral presentations') (10%).3. Listening test ('real and simulated tasks') (10%).4. Two writing assignments ('essay') (20%).5. Progress test (use of English) ('case studies') (10%).In the first call (January) global assessment will be based on the marks received in all the different courseactivities and the final exam. The minimum mark in all these must be 5, except for the progress test ('casestudies'), with a minimum required mark of 4. If a student fails one or more activities the global mark will be FAIL. However, the mark of the activities he/shepassed will be kept until the next call in February. In September only the mark in Speaking will be kept (if thestudent passed it in any of the previous calls).
Clarifications on the methodology for part-time students and students with disabilities andspecial educational needs:
Part-time students that cannot attend lectures regularly will be assessed on the basis of:- Final exam (60% of global assessment).- Listening test ('real and simulated tasks') (10% of global assessment).- 2 writing assignments ('essay') (20% of global assessment).- Speaking activity ('oral presentations') (10% of global assessment).
These students will have to contact the lecturer at the beginning of the course and provide her withdocumentation for excused absence.
Qualifying criteria for obtaining honors:
Getting a minimum mark of 9.
