Vice Chancellor of UPM, Prof. Dato' Dr. Hj. TEAC accreditation is an achievement of excellence in education that takes into account the performance of the graduates in classrooms and during the teacher training programs, other than the professionalism in teaching among academic staff in UPM. TEAC founded in 1997, is an international accreditation body which aimed at monitoring and making continuous improvements for the degree programs for professional educators. TEAC’s goal is to support the preparation of competent, caring and qualified professional educators. This was announced by James G. Cibulka, the President of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) in Bethesda, Maryland USA website www.teac.org on May 7. Besides UPM, two other international universities were also recognized, namely Cambridge College (MA) and Hawai'i Pacific University. Prof. Dato' Dr. Mohd.Fauzi said that the accreditation process involved a comprehensive process in terms of reporting and monitoring that has been conducted for three years to meet all the standard criteria set by TEAC. Among these criteria are quality teaching and learning, setting of challenging standards, monitoring and continuous improvement in bachelor of education programs as well as a challenge in the teaching profession for instructors. Also, another major contributing factor is the collaboration between instructors, faculty members and UPM in general with students in each academic program. He added, “Any university that has received the award must go through the process of monitoring by TEAC for five consecutive years to maintain the accreditation certification. Accreditation received for the bachelor of education programs continues to put UPM as a university that excels in producing graduates in the bachelor of education programs at theinternational level and will remain committed to providing quality education to students.
