Description of Courses offered by the
The science of foundations of jurisprudence: (3) Chr
This course includes the introduction to the foundation of jurisprudence, the legal
evidence which scholars agreed or disagreed on them, the Islamic general rules, and the
linguistic fundamental bases of jurists.
Introduction to Law: (3) Chr
This course deals with the general theory of law in terms of definition, its origins,
characteristics, bases, branches, sources, interpretation and sphere of application. It also deals
with the general theory of right concerning its definition, types, persons, objects, sources, uses,
and the means of its protection.
Sources of Commercial Law: (3) Chr
Prerequisite:
This course deals with the contract in terms of its definition, conditions of conclusion,
validity, interpretation, effects and dissolution. It also deals with unilateral act, unlawful act,
beneficial act, and finally the law as a direct source of obligation.
Principles of Commercial Law: (3) Chr
Prerequisite:
This course is concerned with the general principles of commercial law; it covers its origin,
development, commercial acts, and the merchant in terms of the required conditions and
commercial capacity, the store, its elements and protection, commercial books, commercial
registry, and commercial contracts.
Political Systems and Constitutional Law (3) Chr
This course deals with the definition of constitution and its relation to other laws, types
of constitutions, and ways of creating constitutions. It also deals with the regime and the main
political system of states, the authorities of the state and the competence of each.
Criminal Law (General Part) (3) Chr
Prerequisite:

This course offers an in-depth study of crime in terms of its definition, the laws dealing
with punishment, its types, and content. It also deals with the classification of crimes and their
various categories according to the level of penalty.
Public Finance and Tax Law: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Administrative Law:
This course tackles the definition of public finance and its relation with other sciences.
It also addresses the most important tendencies in this field, income, outcome, and the public
balance. It deals with direct and indirect taxes, income tax systems, and the Jordanian income
tax system in relation to tax disputes, systems of tax assessment, judicial and administrative
appeal, and tax payment duty.
Public International Law: (3) Chr
This course deals with the definition of public international law, the base of its
obligations, its sources and its relation with other branches of law. It deals with the state as a
member of international law. This course also deals with international territories on land, sea
and airspace. It also deals with diplomacy, international disputes and means of their settlement.
Administrative Law: (3) Chr
Prerequisite:
This course deals with the general theory of administrative law in terms of concept,
evolution, characteristics, and sphere of application, resources, and its relation with other
branches of law. It also addresses the administrative systems, whether centralized or
decentralized and also deals with the administrative system in Jordan. In addition,
administrative employment and disciplinary procedures are also highlighted.
This course also deals with the means with which administrative authorities apply its
administrative functions. Administrative contracts, administrative awards, public property, and
public employment are also examined.

Research Project (3) Chr
This course examines preparing a research project, which includes the following
elements: research title, research problem and its importance and aims, previous studies,
research methodology, and bibliography. In addition, this course requires preparing a research
paper in a certain legal topic which was taught under the LLB syllabus of the faculty of law.

Rules of Obligation: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Sources of Obligation:
This course deals with the effects of obligation, namely, execution either voluntary or
obligatory, the characteristics of obligation (e.g. the condition “Proviso” and the maturity
period, plurality of the subject-matter, and plurality of parties and their joint liability), and
conveying the obligation, transferring rights and debts and finally termination of obligation (e.g.
the discharge, the impossibility of performance, and limitation of court actions).
Corporation & Bankruptcy: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Commercial Law/Principles:
This course deals with the general theory of companies, their types whether they are
shareholding, ordinary or mixed. This course also deals with the legal system of bankruptcy, the
pre-conditions in order to issue a decision of bankruptcy and the legal effects on such a
decision. In addition, the course highlights the legal rules governing factual conciliation.
Nominated Contracts (Sale and Rent): (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Civil Law/Rules of Obligation:
This course includes a general study of nominated contracts. It also considers the
contract of sale in terms of formation, and effects (obligations of both parties). It also deals with
the contract of rent in terms of its formation, effects, termination, and special types. Finally it
covers the law of owners and leasers.
Commercial Papers and Banking Transactions: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Company Law:
This course explores the general principles of commercial law, which regulate
commercial papers. The particular rules relating to cheques, promissory note and other
commercial papers are examined. This course also deals with the important bank transactions in
terms of their legal effects, such as financial facilitating, bail, loans, letter of credit, stand-by
letter of credit, transfer of money etc.
Law of Civil Procedures: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Civil Law/Rules of Obligation:
This course deals with the law of civil procedures in terms of its definition development,
sources and relation with other applicable laws. It studies the machinery of justice in respect of

court structure, instances of trial, judicial officers and rules of jurisdiction, theory of action and
procedures in civil matters, litigation, judgments and the ways of appeal.
Private International Law: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Nominated Contracts:
This course deals with the definition of private international law, its sources, and the
law applicable to the legal relationship having a foreign element. It also studies rules of choice of
law, rules of international judicial jurisdiction with a special reference to Jordanian law and the
enforcement of foreign judgments.
Jordanian Constitutional System: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Political Systems and Constitutional Law:
This course deals with the Jordanian constitutional history from the British Mandate
until now. It also contains introduction to the Ottoman rule, the Great Arab Revolt and
history of constitution in Jordan. It also considers the important rules and principles of the
Jordanian Basic Law, political and constitutional organization in Jordan, authorities in Jordan,
political system in Jordan, rights and freedoms characteristics of the 1952 Constitution, the
executive Authority (the king and the ministers), legislative Authority and Judicial Authority.
Criminal Law/ Private Part I: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Criminal Law/ General Part:
This course deals with homicide, murder and culpable homicide: voluntary culpable
homicide (mitigated murder) and involuntary culpable homicide. Offences against personal
integrity such as assault, aggravated assault, reckless injury and reckless endangerment, is so
highlighted. It also examines sexual offences such as rape, indecent assault and shamelessly
indecent conduct. The criminal offence of abortion and offences against honor such as slander
and defamation are also addressed.
Criminal Law/ Private Part II: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Criminal Law/ Private Part I (Crimes against Persons):
This course provides students with general ideas about crimes committed against
property and an in-depth study of the most common crimes such as theft, embezzlement,
deception, robbery extortion, fraud, forgery and uttering.
International Organizations: (3) Chr

Prerequisite: Public International Law:
This course deals with the general theory of international organizations in terms of
their international legal personality, applicable law, membership, financing, functions, and
decision-making. It also tackles the United Nations in addition to other regional organizations
such as the Arab League and the European Union.
Administrative Jurisprudence: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Administrative Law:
This course focuses on legitimacy principle and the executive function of
administration, administrative regulations and by-laws. It also deals with the action of
annulment, compensation, and the judicial controlling over the administrative authorities acts.
Law of Criminal Procedures: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Criminal Law/ Private Part II (Crimes against Property):
This course deals with the definition of the law of criminal procedures and public action
in terms of commencing procedures, reasons of termination and its failing, action of civil
personal as to its persons, conditions and reasons of termination, rules of jurisdiction, void and
evidence, it covers criminal procedure in the process of investigation, elementary search,
presumptions and trial, and finally it deals with criminal rules and the means of its appeal.
Judiciary Applications: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Law of Criminal Procedures:
This course is practical and fieldwork for students at a certain stage of study. This
course concentrates on visiting different courts, prisons, the legislative council, organizations
dealing with law such as the bar association, and NGOs dealing with human rights. This course
also aims at typing the theoretical study with its operation and practical side. The course will
offer students with all relevant practical information from the inception of a criminal or civil
action until a final judgment is rendered. Practical application of procedures in a case shall be
illustrated along with all needed forms for claims, please and applications.
Legal Terminology in English: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Introduction to Law:
The purpose of this course is to acquaint the student with English legal terminology, and
this is through the study of some legal topics in English. This course aims at Instructing students

about legal Terminology and legal phrasing, ways of dealing and understanding foreign legal
books and ways of correctly expressing legal thoughts.
Labor Law and Social Legislation: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Civil Law/Rules of Obligation:
This course deals with the general principles of labor law, in terms of their definition,
evolution, sources, independence and the scope of application. It also deals with the individual
labor contract, regarding elements, duration and effects together with the legal regulations of
the collective labor conventions, labor syndicates and the settlement of the collective labor
disputes. It also considers the social security law in terms of its general principles, importance,
development, extent of its application, and rules of security in case of work accidents.
Commercial Contracts: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Commercial Papers and Banking Transactions:
This course aims to clarify to the student the definition, the importance, the various
kinds, and the legislative arrangements of commercial contacts, as well as the theoretical and
practical principles of drafting commercial contracts in their objective and subjective manner.
In addition, the course focuses on teaching some commercial contacts that are frequently used
by the commercial sector, and which are not taught in other courses at the faculty of law.
Real Estate:
Prerequisite: Nominated Contracts:
This course is concerned with the original real rights, i.e. rights in terms of its scope,
means of protection, and limits imposed thereof, sorts of ownership, means of acquisition, some
rights stemming from ownership, the right of benefit, the right of use and housing, the right of
roof surface and pre-emption rights. It also deals with collateral rights, mortgage, pledge, and
privileged rights in matters of formation, effects and termination of each.
Law of Transportation: (3) Chr
Prerequisites: Nominated Contracts:
This course deals with the legal regime of the ship, its definition, nature, entity and
ownership. Then it tackles the persons of ship especially owner, consignor, captain, and their
liabilities. Finally, it studies the contract of ship exploitation, mainly transport and charter, sea
accidents and the contract of sea insurance. In addition, this course also examines the Air

transportation contract with the right and obligations deriving from it. The conventions and
treaties governing this branch of Law are also examined.
Intellectual Property Rights: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Commercial Law Principles:
This course aims to clarify to the student the intellectual property rights in general as
they are arranged under the Jordanian Legislation and the international conventions.
The course particularly focuses on the essential intellectual property rights, which
include copyright and neighboring rights, commercial and industrial property rights:
trademarks, patents, industrial designs and models, trade secrets, and other subjects. Further,
the course includes the detailed explanation of the international development of intellectual
property rights, and in particular their international conventions.
Law of Evidence and Law of Enforcement: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Law of Civil Procedures:
This course deals with different methods of proof, both formal and substantive rules of
evidence; writing, testimony, oath, declaration, presumptions, expertise and inspection. It also
deals with the law of enforcement in terms of the enforcement department, competent officers,
procedures, instruments, and the means of obligatory enforcement against debtor’s property
and in person.
Insurance Contracts:
Prerequisite: Nominated Contracts:
This course is concerned with the study of insurance contracts in matters of concept
bases, inception and development, branches and Moslem jurists opinion on insurance in general.
Also the course deals with the elements of insurance contracts, especially risk.
Elective Requirements: (18) Credit Hours:
Jurisprudence Personal Status (1): (3) Chr
This course includes the definition of personal status rules, the marriage contract (its
concept, importance, effects), the methods of canceling the marriage contract (divorce, hull,
separating by judgment because of apostasy or breast feeding or disagreement between
husbands…ect). The course also includes the influences of canceling the marriage contract, such
as:' Idaho, descent, breast-feeding, nursing and payment.

Jurisprudence of Personal Status (2): (3) Chr
The course discusses the rules of Wills: their conditions cancellation, different kinds;
inheritance; its kinds and distribution according to Islamic legislation. Premium and interest, its
characteristics, conclusions and effects. Finally, it holds a practical study for insurance contract
against fire, civil liability and car accidents.
Forensic Medicine: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: The Law of Criminal Procedures:
This course is intended to define forensic medicine and to enable the student to examine
and understand the reports supplied by medical laboratories, forensic scientists and medical
doctors in general, to establish facts, which need to be proved by evidence, to facilitate the
process of investigation and settlement of litigation.
Professional Liability and Ethics: (3) Chr
This course deals with following topics:
1. Civil, Criminal and administrative liability of lawyers. It clarifies the requirements of and
consequences of each kind of liability. This course also deals with rights and obligation of
lawyers as well as guarantees available for lawyers.
2. Addressing ethical rules which govern practicing law in Jordan. In addition it explains the rules
which govern the relationship between lawyers on one hand and judges and other lawyers on the
other hand.
Financial papers:
Prerequisite: Commercial Papers and Banking Transactions: (3) Chr
This course discusses the concepts governed by financial legislations concerning
financial papers, its kinds; its dealing (Registration, issuance, subscription, deposition,
settlements, lending and borrowing).It also deals with the commissions that organize these
activities and the rights and obligations of such commissions.
Applications in Civil Liability (101360): (3) Chr
The course exposes you a wide range of civil liability issues. It also deals with
contractual liability and tort liability. This course address recent cases law as it pertains or
sorts of civil liability and difficulties arise from the rules of personal and impersonal liability.
Crimes against the Security of the State: (3) Chr

Prerequisite: Criminal Law/ General Part:
This course deals with crimes affecting the external security of the state, represented
in treason and crimes against international law, espionage and contacting the enemy for illegal
purposes and endangering the state’s integrity and national feeling, in addition to the crimes of
contractors. It deals with crimes against internal security of the state, such as felonies against
the constitution, usurpation of political authority, sedition, terrorism, and national unity
derogation the state’s financial position.
International Criminal Law: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: The Law of Criminal Procedures:
The Course addresses the international Judicial Courts' response to cases of Violation
to human rights and international humanitarian Law. Such violations are described as
international crimes. The course also addresses the present response of the international
community to the committed heinous crimes. Hence the course examines the following issues:
1- The reaction of the international community to international crimes.
2- The fundamental principles of International criminal law which include its definitions
characteristics, sources, and its historical evolution.
3- International Crimes, especially war crimes, crimes against humanity, and Genocide crimes.
4- The fundamental principles of International criminal liability.
5- Impediments dilemmas in invoking International criminal liability.
6- Procedures before international criminal courts.
7- The Statute of the ICC, and the statute of Rome.
8- Temporary International criminal courts.
9- Jordan's stance from international criminal law.
Private crimes: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Criminal Law/ General Part:
The course discuses and analyses cases of private wrong ( or criminal wrong) whether
listed within the framework of the penal law or lies outside it: crimes related to internet and
computer, tax and import duty, public road traffic, drug and narcotics, intellectual property,

election to an office, bribery, fraud and embezzlement, money laundering, infecting and
spreading of HIV, reproductive cloning etc.
Computer Crimes: (3) Chr
This course will provide an overview of computer crime and the procedures forensic
computing specialists, law enforcement investigators, and prosecutors must invoke to
prosecute computer criminals successfully. The impact of science and technology upon security
agencies and how information management systems will prepare for the latest challenges will
also be analyzed and discussed. This course explorer the legal issues affected and created by
Cyber crime. The course will examine the evolution of criminal law relative to the development of
new technology – primarily as it relates to Cyber crime. In doing so, it will examine three
primary areas:
1- Technology relevant to Cyber Crime.
2- Conduct criminalized in cyberspace.
3- Privacy law governing law enforcement investigation in cyberspace.
Topics will include the evolution, nature and scope of cyber crime, forensic analysis of digital
evidence, online investigative techniques, Jordanian and comparative statutes proscribing cyber
crime, sentencing guidelines applicable to Cyber crime, This course will also discuss the related
international agreements.
International Law of the Sea: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Public International Law:
This course deals with law of the sea, its sources and the scope of its application,
internal waters, territorial sea, water channels, closed sea, contiguous zone, continental shelf,
the exclusive economic zone and the high seas.
Civil Rights and liberties: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Jordanian Constitution:
This course deals with the nature of civil rights and liberties. It also discuss the
historical development of such rights Arabia prior to Islam and afterwards. This course also
deals with the contemporary notions of civil rights and liberties in Western democracies,

Prerequisite: Administrative Law:
This course deals with political and administrative decentralization. It also considers
the local entities in Jordan in terms of its independence, members, functions and means.
Civil servants: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: The Administrative Law:
This course explains the notion of civil servants and the manner in which civil servants
come to hold their position and the conditions for their appointment; it also discusses the legal
framework of civil service, such as permanent and temporary change of office, delegation,
substitution … etc. in addition, this course examines the rights and duties of civil servants, the
discipline of civil servants and the penalties that can be applied thereupon, and finally the
conclusion of civil service.
Public Contracts: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: The Administrative Law:
This course presents the definition of administrative contracts (contracts relating to
public service), the contents of the administrative contract, its conditions and norms. It also
explores the extent of authority exercised by the public administration in administrative
contracts as well as the rights of the private contractor therein.
In addition, this course explains the principles of public administration, the effect of the
Act of Prince and the state of necessity (fair aux prince: necessities Vinci legend) on the
administrative contract, the consequences of the administrative contract and the role of
administrative courts in Jordan and in comparative case-law.
Criminology and Penology: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Criminal Law/ General Part:
This course aims at the study of the science of crime, and its historical development,
and its relation to other criminal sciences, together with the different schools, which examine
the same science. It covers the criminal conduct in view of its elements and remedies. Social,
economical and individ1`ual elements are studied as reasons why people commit such crimes

with its definition, its concept and development, in addition, to the relation of the law of
nationality with other laws.

Prerequisite: Commercial Law/Principles:
This course deals with the principles of protecting authors rights single or multiple
including, but not limited to, financial rights, ways of commercializing those rights national and
domestic laws and regulations dealing with intellectual property with extensive study to the
related treaties.
Law of International Trade: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Nominated Contracts:
This course deals with the definition of the law of international trade in addition to its
sources, persons, multinational companies, and international trade contracts. It also deals with
international agreements concerning the international sale of goods, international organization
of trade, and international commercial arbitration.
International Humanitarian Law: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Public International Law:
This course studies the rights of human beings in times of war and the evolution of
these rights. It concentrates on the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 and the two additional
protocols of 1977.
Human Rights: (3) Chr
This course deals with the fundamental notions of Human Rights in an analytical manner.
It also includes and explanation of the international and regional instruments for its protection.
This study also deals with the international legal system for the protection of the rights of
women and the children.
Environmental Law: (3) Chr
This course deals with the definition of the law of environment, its evolution, its sources, public
order and administrative police and the environmental management in Jordan. It also deals with
pollution of the environment, its sources, methods of maintenance and the protection of the

environment against pollution. This course also examines the rules of responsibility for damages
affecting the environment.
Law of Industrial and Intellectual Property: (3) Chr
Prerequisite: Commercial Law/Principles:
This course deals with the notion of industrial and commercial property, patents,
industrial designs and models and trademarks laws, and ways of protecting them under national
law. The course also covers the international treaties dealing with these rights and ways of
protecting them. Regulations dealing with intellectual property with extensive study to the
related treaties.
