OFFICE OF THE VICE PROVOST FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

• Revisions to the CRR required by the administrative restructuring have been completed and approved by the BOC.

• Continue to work with University Advancement and Department Chairs to develop departmental stories to be used with potential donors.

• Corporate Relations Team continues to meet to position the University for comprehensive relationships (hiring, research and philanthropy) with our top 50 corporate partners.

OFFICE OF THE VICE PROVOST FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

• NTT faculty documents have been provided to the Faculty Senate and Academic Department Chairs for their consideration.

• Task Force has been formed to address implementation of SB389.

• Three “new funds” proposals were submitted in response to the solicitation from the Provost.

• Information in regard to the McBride, Bailey and C.J. Grimm scholarships has been sent to students.

• Third year review dossiers have been delivered through the Department Chair to each faulty member undergoing a review.

Enrollment Management

• Freshman apps are up 18 (0.9%) from this time last year.

• Freshman admits are up 62 (3.5%) from this time last year.

• Transfer apps are up 34 (22%) from this time last year.

• Transfer admits are up 10 (14%) from this time last year.

• Graduate apps are up 211 (23%) from this time last year.

School of Extended Learning

• Professional Degree nominations are being solicited from academic departments. All departments are urged to give serious thought to this process as it is a great opportunity to honor our successful alumni. A list of ranked nominations should be sent by each department to the Provost’s Office by January 31, 2008. The selection committee will meet in early February to select the awardees.

School of Extended Learning

Two significant Geotechnical conferences will be hosted by Missouri S&T this summer.

• 6th International Conference on Case Histories in Geotechnical Engineering, Arlington, VA

• Preparing for a Significant Central US Earthquake, Sponsored by USGS & Missouri Department of Natural Resources., Keynote by Hon. JoAnn Emerson, Rolla, MO

Office of Graduate Studies

• Graduate catalog revisions are underway.

• New Graduate Forms 2 and 8 and thesis/dissertation title pages without signatures were approved by the Graduate Faculty.

• Positive feedback on Kate Drowne’s writing workshops and “Formatting Your Thesis or Dissertation”, which was presented by Vicki Hudgins and Roberta Cox.

• Successful recruiting trip to Boeing, Mesa, AZ.

• FY08 activities through the end of December 2007 and a year-over-year comparison are as follows:

– Proposals awarded in total dollars: $23.74M (up 26.8%)

– Number of proposals awarded and amendments: 182 (up 5.8%)

– Proposals submitted in total dollars: $81.72M (up 40.8%)

– Number of proposals submitted: 274 (up 58.4%)

– Research expenditures: $18.93M (up 11.5%)

– F&A recovered: $2.68M (up 10.4%)
