retary of State HillaryRodham Clinton soughtto inject urgency into Is-raeli-Palestinian peacetalks Friday, warning thenegotiations may be thelast chance for a very longtime to reach an agree-ment.

In an unusual joint inter-view with Israeli and Pal-estinian television broad-casters, Clinton said therise of Iranian-backed ex-tremist ideology in theMiddle East is a major rea-son why time is short.

I think that time is noton the side of either Israelior Palestinian aspirationsfor security, peace and astate, she said. A com-mitment to violence bythose opposed to peacemake reaching an agree-ment quickly all the morenecessary, she said.

The United States,Clinton added, wantsto weigh in on the side ofleaders and people whosee this as maybe the lastchance for a very long timeto resolve this.
