Traditional Means of Trade

• Large chain of people responsible for getting the good from the country of origin to the destination country

• Farmers get very little for the amount of effort they put in

• Sustainable development not used• Child and slave labour allowed• No benefits offered (eg. health care or

unions)

Fair Trade

• Farmers get a “fair” price for their product

• Eliminates many “middle men” from trading line

• Sustainable development practices

• Improved benefits

• More investment in local economy

FLO

• Fair Trade Labeling Organization International

• FLO certifies companies with the fair trade logo (pictured above)

• They would investigate all aspects of the company to make sure they are fairly trading products
