The Presidents’ Corner by Mike Cassetta

Happy New Years and I hope you all had a good holi-day.

As most of you know, we

live in the Sandy Hook section of Newtown. Our kids attend a different elementary school and were not directly affected in the horrific events of De-cember 14th. I do greatly ap-preciate everyone who con-tacted us to ask about our chil-dren, your thoughts were most comforting. As a community it has been difficult, as it has been for everyone in Connecti-cut and all over the world.

On Sat Jan 19th the New-

town Underwater Search and Recovery “NUSAR” team has organized The Sandy Hook Me-morial Dive at Dutch Springs. It should be an emotional but healing event.

This Friday, Jan 18th is the

Maritime Aquarium Dive Team Holiday Party. It is open to our club members. If you have not responded, please do.

Our 1st meeting of the year

will be on Friday Jan 25th. Guest speakers will be Jody Brown and Andy Cummings

sharing photos from a recent dive trip to the Philippines.

We will also be holding our

annual elections. Although I am willing to serve again as co-president, I feel I have been corrupt and inept and should be voted out “I will have to run a smear campaign against my-self to get out of office”, so if anyone is interested please let us know.

With the New Year, it is time

to renew your FCDA member-ship. It also makes a wonderful Valentine gift for the special someone. The electronic news-letter is, in a word, “awesome” and is strongly recommended by 1/1 Rheumatologists in Trumbull. Please help us to get everyone on the electronic newsletter - the secretary will thank you!

Again, all of your thoughts

and prayers have been won-

derful and as a community

greatly appreciated….

Mike

The beginning of 2013 was a very momentous time for our own Paul Gacek. Paul went off to the is-land of Nassau in the Bahamas where he boarded the Carib Dancer. This was no ordinary dive trip, this was Paul’s 50th trip with the Aggressor/Dancer Fleet. Paul also achieved one more milestone, Paul made his 3000th dive while on this trip, it took Paul 31 years to achieve this. Congratulations Paul.

Paul coming up from his 3000th dive.

Here Paul is receiving his certificates from the crew.

Paul with his certificates.

a presentation by

Jody Deevy-Brown & Andy Cummings

With more than 7,100 coral-fringed islands through out the archipelago, The Philippines have been identified as one of the "global hot spots of biodiversity". Travel back with the Ski & Scuba Connection as we visit 2 different islands - Puerto

Galera in Mindoro and Dumaguete on Negros - to explore the waters and the thriving marine ecosystem in search of mag-

nificent muck sites and spectacular seascapes.
