JUNE / JULY / AUGUST DIARY 2015 JUNE / JULY / AUGUST DIARY 2015

Tue 26 - Sat 30 May 7.30pm THE STUDIOSTOP! …THE PLAY

A fast-paced, hysterical comedy about a troupe of actors battling through the theatrical car-crash rehearsals of the world’s worst play.

It starts out as a worthy new piece called The Dark Heart of Art, about an artist struggling for recognition in a cold, heartless world. But then as rehearsals get underway, chaos takes over. The play starts veering wildly all over the place as the writer goes mad and takes his play over the edge, dragging the hapless actors and the hopeless director down with it. Characters change, tempers fray and a monkey is let loose backstage as the play mutates into a shockingly sexual pseudo-psycho-drama, full of nudity, madness and murder.

This hysterical new comedy is a satirical masterclass and intriguing insight into what really goes on behind the locked door of a rehearsal room. Suitable for ages 16+.

Mon 8 - Sat 13 June 7.30pm, Thu & Sat Matinees 2.30pmASHCROFT THEATRETWELVE ANGRY MEN

Following its record-breaking West End run at London’s Garrick Theatre, Jason Merrells, one of TV’s most popular actors, will lead TWELVE ANGRY MEN in this powerful production of Reginald Rose’s thrilling courtroom drama.

Nominated Villain of The Year at the British Soap Awards for playing Declan Macey in Emmerdale, Jason Merrells will play juror number 8 in this gripping stage production of the 1957 three-time Academy Award nominated film, which was produced by and starred Henry Fonda and considered to be one of the great ‘must-see’ movies of all time. Jason’s other starring roles include Cutting It, Waterloo Road and Casualty.

Taking his place on the jury alongside Jason is fellow TV bad guy Andrew Lancel, the villainous businessman Frank Foster in Coronation Street. The cast also includes Denis Lill (The Royal), and Gareth David-Lloyd (Ianto Jones in Torchwood); and returning from the West End production are Robert Duncan (Drop The Dead Donkey), Andrew Frame (EastEnders), David Calvitto, Mark Carter, Sean Power and Jon Carver as The Guard.

Twelve jurors have murder on their minds and a life in their hands as they decide the fate of a young delinquent accused of killing his father. But what appears to be an open and shut case soon becomes a dilemma for the twelve, as prejudices and preconceived ideas about the accused turn the tables every which way until the nail-biting climax...
