Fairfield would go into the MAAC Tournament as the third seed for the third-straight season and the 11th time in program history. The Stags advanced to the MAAC Semifinals for the first time since 2012 after defeating Niagara in the Quarterfinals. The Stags came into the season expecting a rebuilding year after graduating three seniors and 66 percent of their scoring and 61 percent of their rebounding. However, as the year went on the nine first-year players started to become adjusted to the game pace and found their niche. The newcomers represented 48 percent of the team’s scoring and 46 percent of their boards. Two of the top-three scorers of this season did not play more than five games in 2013- 14. The lone non-conference win of the season came against Big EAST Butler in double overtime at Alumni Hall. It was the second time in the last three season that the Stags have defeated the Bulldogs and the third win against a BCS school under Joe Frager. All-time it was the 23rd win in program history against a team in a Power Conference. The signature win of the season came in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. when the Stags defeated Marist for the second-straight time at the McCann Arena. Fairfield became the first team in over a decade to beat the Red Foxes in back-to-back games on the road. Marist at the time was the nine-time defending MAAC Champions. The leading scorer of the season was first year forward Casey Smith. After transferring from Saint Joseph and sitting out two total season, Smith scored 370 points in her rookie season and was three points shy of tying the program record. Smith had the opportunity to break the 17-year old record set by her former coach Lisa Mikleic, but had to leave at halftime in the MAAC Semifinals due to a concussion. For the sixth time during his tenure, the Stags set a defensive record under Coach Frager. The Stags allowed 57.3 points per game during the season which now stands at fifth all-time in program history. Frager now holds the top-six spots in this category.
