Dear Parents/ Carers,
STAFF NEWS
We farewell three staff members at the end of the week—Miss Kristy Byrne, Miss Nikki Nimmo and Miss Wafaa.
Miss Byrne—the school community has had the opportunity to say farewell to Miss Byrne over the
past couple of weeks, with Miss Byrne moving to Cabramatta PS next term to commence in the role
of Deputy Principal—Instructional Leader, for the rest of 2018-2019, with a possible extension. We
wish Miss Byrne all the very best for the future.
Miss Nimmo—we would like to thank Miss Nimmo for the fine work she has done since commencing at Fairvale PS
in a temporary capacity at the start of the year. Miss Nimmo has been offered work closer to home and we do
appreciate the time she has spent with us. We wish her well at her new school.
Miss Wafaa—we would like to wish Miss Wafaa all the very best for the future. Miss Wafaa has been offered the
opportunity to work as a clerical assistant. During her time at Fairvale, Miss Waffa, has worked as a bilingual SLSO
and at times, assisted in the photocopy room. Best wishes Miss Wafaa!
MISS CAMERON
Miss Cameron will continue in the role as relieving Principal of Lansvale East PS for the whole of Term 3. Although Miss
Cameron is missing us here at Fairvale PS, I know she is doing a fabulous job at Lansvale East. A new, relieving Deputy
Principal will commence duty next term.
ROCKETING AROUND THE SCHOOL WITH MR PITT
EARLY ACTION for SUCCESS (EAfS) K-6: Our school is currently in its second year of implementing EAfS K-6.
The whole initiative is led by Mrs Farnham and Mrs Karam, our school’s Instructional Leaders (ILs). Our ILs
ensure that support staff work with targeted students K-2 in the areas of literacy and numeracy. These
support staff are our interventionists. Due to the success of the initiative, we have continued to use school funds to see
the same concept working in 3-6, led by our curriculum leaders, Mrs Dean and Miss Brady. Interventionists also support
the students in 3-6. We have quite a big team of interventionists this year; Mrs Rosic, Mrs Pereira, Mrs Peterson, Mrs
Dove, Mrs Li and Mrs Kyriacou. Two other important parts to EAfS is data analysis and teacher professional learning.
Over the past week I had the opportunity to visit some of interventionists working with our students.
NEW ARRIVALS PROGRAM (NAP): Over the last few years, with the increase of new arrivals and refugees to our
wonderful country, brings along targeted funding for our school. These funds are used to employ specialised teachers
and SLSOs who work with students during the day. Work includes building students vocabulary and supporting positive
daily interaction with peers and teachers. Our NAP teachers include Mrs Houlayce, Mrs Chamoun and Mrs La Robina.
Check out the photos in this edition of the newsletter.
PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS
Thank you to the parents who attended parent/teacher interviews this week. I hope you found the
interview informative, and allowed you to celebrate the achievement of your child/ren. I would also like
to thank our staff for their commitment to these occasions. We have such a hardworking, enthusiastic
team of teachers who continue to ensure we put the students in our care first. If you were unable to
attend on the night, you can still meet with your teacher. Either speak to your child’s teacher or contact the office.

STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY TERM 3
On Monday 23 July, 2018 teachers and learning support staff will participate in a professional development day at school
and the second part of the day we will be at Marconi Club. This day will allow teachers an opportunity to continue to gain
new knowledge and relevant information relating to quality teaching, literacy, physical education for kids and personal
wellbeing. School will resume for students on Tuesday 24 July, 2018.
END OF TERM ASSEMBLY
Last week we celebrated our K-2 and 3-6 end of Semester assembly. It certainly was an enjoyable time, celebrating the
achievements of many students from all classes and support programs. The item performances were impressive. Please
remember students in dance groups will be performing at the Gillawarna Festival towards the end of next term. This is
also another occasion where we acknowledge the wonderful talents of the students at Fairvale PS. Thank you to the
parents and friends who attended and a big thank you to our organising teachers of both assemblies.

From the Relieving Deputy Principal
THANK YOU
I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone at Fairvale. I have had the most amazing 6 years! We have such great students, staff and community that it makes it very hard for me to say goodbye. I’m sure I’ll be calling Mr Pitt regularly to get updates! I have also very much enjoyed my time as Rel Deputy Principal. I hope you all have a safe and happy holiday!
SOCCER
The Fairvale soccer teams were treated to a 'Pizza Party' after being triumphant earlier this term and winning the PSSA Soccer competition. Both teams enjoyed the party and the Junior team were given a secret surprise gift. Mr Perez, father of Diego, bought the entire Junior team their own Barcelona Jersey for being the victorious team. All the kids were thrilled and excited. The Junior Fairvale team became the Junior Barcelona team for one day.! Thank you Mr Perez!

Attendance Matters—What parents/carers can do
Send your children to school every day, starting in Kindergarten, to teach your children that attendance counts.
Don’t let your child miss school without a good reason. Try to avoid medical appointments during the school day or holidays when school is in session.
Create routines and stick to them. Set a regular bed time and morning routine to get ready for school. For older students, be sure they get enough sleep.
Find your own ways to reward good attendance.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Have you paid for the Athletics Carnival to be
held early next term on Thursday 26 July. This is
a mandatory carnival for all students in Years 3-6
(some Year 2 have also been invited). It is
important that you return your note and money to the office
as soon as possible. If you need assistance with payments,
please organise to speak to myself or Miss Byrne at the front
office.
A BIG congratulations to Mallak S in KB. She has won a trip to Taronga Zoo for all her classmates and Miss Berry. The school recently entered Mallak’s bright and colourful painting of some birds into the QBE School Banner Competition held by Sydney Taronga Zoo. The judges were so impressed with Mallak’s creative artwork that they chose her design, out of all the other Early Stage 1 entries, to win a very special prize. As well as going to the zoo for the day, where they get to be special quests at a bird show and go on some “behind the scenes” tours, Mallak’s artwork is going to be made into an advertising banner that will be displayed throughout the zoo.
Fairvale PS is so proud of this amazing accomplishment. Well done Mallak!

5 July , 2018 Term 2, Week 10
On Friday,Week 9, all of our amazing Banner winners attended a ‘Hip Hop Extravaganza’ in the school hall.
Incursions R Us provided two hip hop instructors who taught the lucky winners some very cool moves such as
the Reebok, Running Man, the Smurf and the Whomp. The students were then taught how to put some of
these moves into a whole routine and the boys versed the girls. They were all so brilliant that the teachers
couldn’t pick a winner! The ‘Hip Hop Extravaganza’ ended with free dance time and a cold ice block to cool
everyone down. All of the students had an amazing time and wanted to do it all over again! Congratulations
to our Semester 1 Banner award winners.

Nationally consistent collection of
data on school students with
disability – 2018
Our school is participating in the mandatory
collection of nationally consistent data (NCCD) on
students within our school who receive
personalised support for their learning.
We will be collecting information outlining the
support that is being provided to students with
physical, cognitive, sensory, emotional and/or social
disability. Better data will help the Government plan
for students with disability.
The data collection will have no direct impact on
your child and they will not be involved in any
testing as a result of this process.
The NSW Department of Education and
Communities will provide data to the Australian
Government from all NSW public schools in such a
way that no individual student or school will be able
to be identified. In this way, we will ensure the
privacy and confidentiality of all students.
If you have concerns about your child being
included in this data collection, please contact the
school.
Get involved in the School Banking Program Fairvale Public School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking program to all students. School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can save up and redeem for exciting rewards.
The rewards available during 2018 are:
Twister Power Handball
Secret Scratch Pad
Sparkle Glitter Pens
Glow Light
Mighty Boom Handball
Heat Reactor Pencils
Slushie Maker Cup
Zoom Flying Disc
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a regular Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one School Banking deposit in the prior year.
Getting involved in School Banking is easy!
All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:
1. Online: Visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver account.
2. In branch: Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a driver’s licence and birth certificate.
3. We will be holding a School Banking Information Sessions at our school: If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.
School Banking day is starting from Thursday 2nd August 2018. Each week you need to give your bankbook to your class teacher in the morning. If you would like to know more about School Banking, please ask for a 2018 School Banking program information pack from the school office or visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking
