“Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another”
(Hebrews 10:25:17 )
“Let’s meet up somewhere.” Boston Coffee. Tom’s Pizza. “The Grape.” McDonald’s. FELC. We have a butterfly garden. It’s a Pokemon “stop”! If coffee is made, or there’s a
meal being prepared, we can step out the kitchen door, and invite whoever may be in the park next door to join us.
These days, it needn’t be formal. It’s not about “standing on ceremony, “PC” etiquette, or presumed worthiness.
What is offered here at Faith is an opportunity to make spiritual connections. How can we predict when God is going to show up? Our hearts can be touched and trans-formed by anybody, anywhere.
We should always start here, but it can – and should – continue in homes, cof-fee shops and pizza parlors. Although most often casual, these “meet-ups” should be intentional. The Spirit is certainly capable of working through us, if we avail our-selves of opportunities. I would love to see the word out on the streets of DeLand to be, “hey, have you heard about what’s going on at Faith Lutheran?”
It most likely will mean sacrifice, losing something of our pride and carefully guarded opinions. If you’re still thinking the way you were twenty or thirty years ago, then you haven’t moved. You haven’t grown. You have stagnated. You’re a “flat-liner.”
True love, and telling the truth, usually comes at a cost. Thanks be to God that we have a Spirit who intercedes for us, a Savior who bled and died for us. We can of-fer the real sacrifice of our worship and praise. We can wash ourselves anew with the waters of baptism. We can feast on the Bread of Life and drink from the cup of salva-tion. We can kneel at our bedside, or at the altar rail. We can adore the crosses in our lives, and visualize placing our cares and burdens at the feet of our blessed Re-deemer.
We have grown, and will continue to grow together. Please consider getting more involved in our congregational life. There are plenty of openings and freedom to try something new, meet someone new. All we do, we do to the glory of God.
Let’s “meet up” at Faith!
Yours in Christ,

Thanks to all who served in March !
Great teamwork – thanks be to God!
On Tuesday, August 9th, we served 68 meals, plus 14
second helpings to the hungry. Big thanks go to the
following for preparing and serving: Scott Bouchard,
Mary Rosenberg, Adam Stoddard, Carol Sutton,
Tiernan Sutton, Michael Swanto, Pam Swanto, Debbie
Wuertz, Kaylie O’Shaughnessy (DeLand H.S.).
Thanks also again to Veronica “Teddi” Holmes.
We serve on the second Tuesday of each month. This is
a great opportunity for a group, club, or family to
serve the community. There is no financial commit-
ment necessary; simply a gift of time and service. The
entrees for these meals are provided, but salads, side
dishes, and desserts are always appreciated.
Our next turn is
Tuesday, September 13th at
5:00pm. If you would like to serve, please call
Debbie Wuertz at 453-9420.

Christmas in July was a HUGE suc-
cess. We collected 161 pounds of items
that was separated into 14 boxes and
shipped to four servicemen and wom-
en: Lisa Schmid, L. J. Smiley, Jacob
Cosat and Pete Chambers. I’m sure
they will enjoy receiving bath towels,
books, toiletries, snacks, Ramen noo-
dles and games, just to name a few of
the fun things that are traveling to all
parts of the world to these courageous
men and woman. Janice Cornwell,
Don and Debby Boyer made a trip to
Emory L. Bennett Memorial Veterans
Nursing Home to deliver four Christ-
mas gift bags full of DVD’s, cassette
tapes, jigsaw puzzles, and games. Two
boxes of books and more than six gift
cards to local restaurants were also
delivered. To say the director was ex-
cited is an understatement! Thank
you so much for the outpouring of gen-
erosity for those who have given so
much for our great country!

How to Grow into the Likeness of
Him
Eat less; breath more
Talk less; think more
Ride less; walk more
Clothe less: bathe more
Worry less; work more
Waste less; give more
Preach less; practice more
Whine less; pray more
Frown less; laugh more
Knock less; saw more
Boast less; build more
Regret less; aspire more
Condemn less; cheer more
Hate less; love more
Loaf less; work more
Scold less; encourage more
and thus ye shall grow into the
likeness of him who sought
through every word and act to lift
the individual nearer to an appreci-
ation of life itself.
If... If you have the "blues," read 27th
Psalm.
If your pocketbook is empty, read
the 7th Psalm.
If people seem unkind, read the
15th chapter of John.
If you are discouraged about your
work, read the 126th Psalm.
If you are all our of sorts, read the
12th chapter of Hebrews.
If you are losing confidence in men,
read the 13th chapter of First Co-
rinthians.
If you can't have your own way in
everything, keep silent and read
the 3d chapter of James.

Try again; can you imagine Christ

We are continuing to ask for people to provide the bread for Holy Communion. If you would like the recipe, ask Ruth Erickson (734-9697) or Dorothy Caldwell (216-4014). This is an excel-
lent way to give and help save on purchasing wafers. Thank you!

The Music Week program at camp Lutheridge, located in the Blue Ridge mountain area of North Carolina, was inspired by this year’s theme, “Who is My Neighbor?” Pastor Kevin Strickland of Chicago, the Assistant to the ELCA Presiding Bishop and the Chaplain for Music Week, cited “everyone” as the theme’s answer. He biblically based his answer on the parable of The Prodigal Son and His Brother and the parable of The Good Samaritan found in the 15th and 11th chapters of Luke’s gospel. Our congregation was represented by ten persons during the week of July 10 to 16, 2016. Zenan Sutton served the summer camp as Area Di-rector in General Duty. Deborah and Bob DeGaetano were on the facul-ty teaching Drumming/Percussion and Guitar. Dotty Schoenfelder, Al-fred and Cornelia Policke, Martha Policke and Adam Stoddard partici-pated in the Adult Choral sessions directed by David Cherwien. Our youth consisted of Tiernan Sutton with the High School group and Beverley Erickson with the Middle School group. At the Friday after-noon Youth Concert in the Faith Center, Tiernan played with the High school Advanced Handbells and sung with the High school Choir. Bev-erly played with the high school and Middle School Beginning Hand-bells and sung with the Middle School Choir. She also was a flute play-er in the Orcha-Band. Mark Sedio, who teaches at Augsburg College and Luther Seminary in Minneapolis, was the Organ Clinician. He led the Hymn Festival on Thursday evening at St. James Episcopal Church in Hendersonville. The High School youth and the Adult Hymn-fest Choir participated in the Service of Songs of Light and Songs of Peace. This Music Week Program supported our Lutheran Church to have a global ministry in spreading and living the Gospel news of salvation through God’s grace and our faith and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. Our task is to love and help our neighbor. Of the 322 persons who attended music Week, 160 were youth and 162 were adults. Cornelia and Alfred Policke, participants

Intercessory prayer is one of the Christian’s most powerful tools. By lifting up those in need, we bring them to the Lord for His healing hand, strength and comfort.
We pray for those who are chronically ill, that God would be their daily companion and strength:
Laura Coe, Hazel Bryngelson, Nina Eriksen, Linda Feiler, Lloyd Zeller, Kerry Sholtis, Lance Borows, Faith Eriksen
For those who are fighting cancer, that they will know they are not alone in the battle: Ray Bebee, Curt Doroban, Bob Jordan, Alfred Mueller, Isabelle Lee Pritchett, Emily Snyder, Suzie Farris, and Craig
Parrillo
We rejoice with those who are recovering form injury, illness, or surgery: Nina Eriksen, Anna Anderson, Ruth Niederstrasser
For those who are shut in, that they will feel the Lord’s constant presence:
Lucille Eaton (FLHC), Millie Glover, Virginia Fauble
We pray for those whose needs are known only to the Lord: Cathy Buchner, Marilyn Snow, Heather Kinney, Preston Kinney, Carolyn Stevens, Jackie Hays,
Cathy, Dorothy Caldwell, Scarlet Valdez
We pray for the special concerns of our neighbors, our community, our nation and our world: Our men and women in the military, Habitat for Humanity, All people in war-torn nations, Storm victims, Rain for areas that need it, For our local, state and national leaders, for those in the grip of addiction to drugs and alcohol and
for their families.
Email your prayer request to [email protected] or contact Faith Eriksen at 736-1799
“The people who followed the Lord were called the twelve decibels.” “The epistles were the wives of the apostles.” “The greatest miracle in the Bible is when Joshua told his son to stand still and he obeyed him!”
