Fa i t h F o r m at i o n G u i d i n g P r i n c i p l e s One of the top priorities of the Diocese of Orange’s Strategic Plan is the work of evangelization and faith formation for people of all ages. In this time of pandemic, with a greatly reduced parish staff, we are committed to plan our activities in accord with the strategic plan of the Diocese and our own parish mission statement. These are the principles that will shape our decisions:
We are all sons and daughters of our loving Father; brothers and sisters of Jesus
Christ; temples of the Holy Spirit.
We believe that the celebration of the Sunday Eucharist is the source and summit of our lives as Catholics; all we do will flow from and to the Sunday Mass experience.
We will re-imagine how to evangelize and form our parishioners of all ages, aware that new wine needs new wineskins.
We will provide digital resources that are excellent in quality, approved by our Dio-cese, pastorally sensitive, and cost effective for families and individuals. (e.g. Zoom, YouTube, Facebook, etc.)
We will provide non-digital, in-home, personal and family-oriented experiences to strengthen families and individuals. (e.g. printed materials, family prayer experi-ences, in-home activities, etc.)
We will balance what we offer digitally with parish-wide faith formation programs and one-on-one outreach to individuals, families, and small groups.
We will encourage community building (in families, in small groups) with the offer-ings we provide.
We will be intentional about working together, supporting each other, and praying for each other as the Evangelization & Faith Formation Staff Team for our parish.
Please continue to check with us regularly as our plans develop. Thank you.

Missionary Co-op Plan Second Collection NEXT WEEK, we will participate in the Mission-ary Co-op Plan Second Collection. Typically dur-ing the summer we have the opportunity for missionaries to come to our parishes to share about their proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, including service to the poor. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, they are unable to visit our diocese this year. However, we remain com-mitted to support these missionaries and their missions. We have a unique opportunity to stand in global solidarity with brothers and sis-ters throughout the world as they share the healing love of Christ during the pandemic. A t t e n t i o n : F r a u d S c a m s o n t h e R i s e The U.S. Treasury Department is reporting an increase in the number of “fake email messages” that are proving to be highly effective in scamming the recipients, often costing them thousands of dol-lars. Sometimes the request is for gift cards, but often it may come as a request for cash, the latter putting your own bank account at risk. Sadly, in many cases, the request for help appears to be com-ing from your own priest or bishop. The email is, in fact, sent by a hacker using email redirect to im-personate the sender. When a payment is sent by you, the hacker changes the bank details and redi-rects the funds to his or her own account, NOT to the account of the person you believe to be offer-ing your help. The email will look real and you’ll be tempted to offer your assistance, but you should check before responding or providing any assistance. Diocese of Orange banking partner, Farmers & Merchants, offers these tips to protect you from email redirect scams. V e r i f y f i r s t , p a y s e c o n d . Email accounts can become compromised and an email you re-
ceive may be fake. If you receive payment instructions in an email from what appears to be a trust-ed customer or vendor, call the individual who made the request, prior to initiating payment, to en-sure it is an authentic request. Never use the phone number listed in an email. Call a phone number you know to be theirs.
S c r u t i n i z e O v e r p a y m e n t s . A popular scam is to request a refund by cashier's check or wire transfer for an alleged overpayment that was deposited into your account. Be sure to question how the overpayment occurred and wait for the initial deposit to clear before initiating a refund.
B e w a r e o f c o n f i d e n t i a l i t y . Whenever wire transfer instructions specify keeping the transaction a secret, verbally verify with an authorized individual or the person requesting the transaction.
T a k e y o u r t i m e a n d b e c a u t i o u s . A common red flag of a perpetrator is trying to rush a wire transfer or payment.
V e r i f y C h a n g e s . Any time you receive new payment instructions or a change to existing pay-ment instructions, verbally confirm with a trusted source that they sent the request.
D o u b l e C h e c k E m a i l A d d r e s s e s . A common trick is to slightly modify a trusted email address. For example, [email protected] might be changed to [email protected]. Another common trick is for a fraudster to spoof a display name to look like the email is coming from a trusted source. To verify the sender of a payment request, use your com-puter cursor to hover over the display name in the "From" field to verify it is the email address of a trusted source. Illegitimate emails will show a different email address.
U s e F o r w a r d I n s t e a d o f R e p l y . Do not reply to an email with a wire or payment re-quest. Instead, forward the email to the email address that you have on file. B e V i g i l a n t A g a i n s t I m p e r s o n a t o r s H e r e a r e s o m e p o i n t s t o r e m e m b e r : The priests and staff members of the parish will never ask you for money or gift cards for any
cause that is also not published in the bulletin. Be careful of fake social media profiles that will pretend to be a staff member and, eventually
through direct message, ask you for donations. If the profile only has a couple of followers that can be an indication that it is fake. Feel free to call the parish to verify the priest or staff member who sent you a friend request or wishes to follow you.
Be aware of emails that come from priests/staff members that are not from the parish domain name.
