As a firefighter, Michael has shared what happened on the day of Pentecost in a whole new way, as he has experienced first hand what happens when there is "a sound of a rush of a violent wind" with fire that can "fill the enƟre house" where people may have earlier been siƫng. On a first hand basis, Michael has shared stories of "divided tongues, as of fire" and how at Ɵmes those tongues of fire have rested upon him, as he and other firefighters were fighƟng a fire. Through the stories from friends and family who are firefighters or from the television and mov- ies, maybe you too have heard the stories of the power of "a sound of a rush of a violent wind, “how fire can "fill the enƟre house" and how "divided tongues, as of fire" can come upon firefighters and harm them when they least expect. The imagery of that day of Pentecost is very real for those who fire- fighters and can and should be very real for all of us who are "filled with the Holy Spirit" and "speak in other languages, as the Spirit (gives to us) ability." As we have come to the celebraƟon of Pentecost Sunday and soon will begin new ministry with Pastor Mark Sloss, I want to encourage and challenge each of us that the Spirit would come and fill each of us with the same kind of imagery we have from Acts. When filled with the Spirit, we would be taken wherever "a rush of a violent wind" would take us and have "divided tongues, as of fire" burn in our hearts and in what we say, as we share with others about our Savior Jesus in the different languages coming from our stories and our own experiences. As firefighters know the power of the "rush of a vio- lent wind" and what "divided tongues, as of fire" can do, may we experience being filled full of the Holy Spirit, where the Spirit like that violent wind can take us, and as the tongues as of fire burn brightly, we share our different stories, as the Spirit gives to all of us the ability! May we be filled full of the Holy Spirit and with each of us, "a rush of a violent wind" and "divided tongues, as of fire" take us where we least expect and share all of who Jesus is as our Lord and Savior!

Mission Statement: As followers of Jesus Christ, we embrace, reflect and proclaim God’s unconditional love.

“When the day of Pentecost had come, (the disci-ples) were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like a rush of a violent wind, and it filled the en re house where they were si ng. Divided tongues, as of fire, ap-

peared among them, and a tongue rested on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit

gave them ability.” Acts 2:1-4 On Sunday, April 19, Faith Lutheran Church had three visitors, my good friend Michael and two of his step-sons, who had been rock climbing in the Red River Gorge over the weekend. May 13, 2015 Dear Brothers and Sisters of Faith Lutheran Church, It is with great joy and honor that I accept the call to become pastor of Faith Lutheran congre-ga on. I’m excited to be a part of the dynamic ministry taking place at Faith, and I look forward to discerning with you what new ventures God might have in store for us. My an cipated start date is July 1, 2015 and I’m planning on a ending the planning retreat with congrega onal leaders on Saturday, June 13th. Susan and I were very impressed with the warmth and welcome that we received when we were with you in April, and we covet your prayers during our me of transi on. Grace and peace be with you all. In Christ, Rev. Mark E. Sloss

Gree ngs in the name of the crucified and risen Christ. I am excited to be a part of the community at Faith Lutheran, a vibrant congrega on where I feel called to use my gi s add-ing “a new dimension in the world of sound,” as the hymn writer proclaims. “The singing church is the living church” is a ributed to Luther. One of the things that made a deep impression on me when I joined you in worship last March is how passionately you regard music. It remains true in the present day that this passion of the People’s Song is a good barometer of a congrega on’s spiritual well-being. Song, used in this way, is a metaphor for all to share in the salva on narra ve and offer praise to God. Simply stated, it is the People of God respond-ing to God’s grace. We do this assembled together because we are united in the death and certainty of Jesus’ resurrec on. “I will sing praise with the spirit, but I will sing praise with the mind also.” Paul’s le er to the anxious Corinthians about spiritual gi s also resonates to our chal-lenges as a modern people faced with a broken world and a fractured Church. In this respect I admire Faith Lutheran for its bold witness in the community and for its desire for meaningful worship, centered in Word and Sacrament and done with excellence. I am deeply grateful for the work of Mr. Clif Cason for the past several months. He has been especially helpful to me during this transi on and I know firsthand that his leadership was invaluable for Faith Lutheran during a very difficult me. Finally, let me address the usage of the term “Cantor” which may be new to some and is being used in a different way. Both the search team and personnel team support this historic and very Lutheran tle, which goes back even before the most famous Cantor of all, J. S. Bach. This voca onal term has been re-claimed by Lutheran church musicians the world-over and there is simply no be er word to describe what I do. I recognize at Faith there are cantors who help lead song specifically at worship mes. This will not change and, in fact, we all strive to do the same thing: encourage people in song. My being the Can-tor of Faith implies an overarching role as the person who engages in broad plan-ning, leadership and spirituality for the congrega on. Please join me Sunday, June 14th, at 9:45 a.m., for a forum in which I will greet you and answer ques ons. I look forward to seeing you then. Peace, Cantor Tom

The G-Force is movin’ in to help our kids experience God's unstoppable love and discover how to fuel up and put God's love in ac on! We are making a big change for VBS 2015. A er a lot of thought, debate and prayerful discussions with many people, we've decided to try evening VBS this year. The dates for VBS are July 7-10 from 6:00 p.m.-- 8:30 p.m. This is a Tuesday-Friday. Our hope is that having evening VBS this will do two things: Most importantly we think it will allow for more members of Faith Lutheran to a end. Many of our kids cannot a end VBS because their parents work during the day. Addi onally, I've had many people express a desire to help with VBS but they cannot because they also work during the day. So, hopefully we will have lots and lots of willing volunteers. If you are available and willing to help out this year please let me know as soon as possible. If you or your teenager are will-ing to help this year please let me know as soon as possible. If you aren't able to par cipate, but have a good idea of someone that would be a great volun-teer, I would love to hear that too! We will need all types of helpers. Someone that will escort kids from sta on to sta on, someone to lead sta ons, someone to do openings and closings, etc. You just let me know your preference and we will make it all happen.

We are also going to do a "brown bag dinner" fund-raiser before VBS starts each night. People can meet at church at 5:30 p.m. and bring their own dinner or purchase a brown bag meal from the child care. De-tails are s ll under “construc on” so watch for more details and how to sign up for the supper, in the nar-thex and other Faith publica ons throughout the month. Thanks!!! Dear Family of Faith Lutheran: We are so reluctant to ask for help, but we have found that we just can’t do it alone! Along with other commi ed Chris ans, God placed it on our hearts to form a non-profit organiza on, 501©3, called Grace Missions, Inc. Grace Missions, Inc, owns and operates an orphanage called Chez Moi for approximately 25 girls in Bon Repos, Hai . Chez Moi means “My Home” in French. We also sponsor four Hai an young men in University training to be various types of doctors and a diplomat. It takes funds to provide a Chris an home for 25 girls and to send four young men to college. We depend on the Lord and He has provided. We are a young, fledgling non-profit and, to be en rely truthful, we are sustaining “hand to mouth.” We would like a consistent, balanced budget where we would know how much monies are coming in each given month. Thus, we are asking that you prayerfully consider spon-soring a girl or girls on a monthly basis. Sponsors will receive photo-graphs of and biological informa on, opportuni es for le er wri ng, skyping, along with regular online and print mailings of our newsle er, GraceNotes, and end of the year tax deduc on statements needed for filing. You may commit to sponsoring $10.00 monthly, $15.00, $25.00, $35.00, $50.00, $75.00, $100.00 or any amount with which you are comfortable. You may sponsor one or any number of girls. If you have a child, par cularly a daughter, it is a wonderful way for her to relate to a girl from another culture and for you to teach her about God’s world. If you cannot commit to a monthly amount, we would be thrilled with a one- me or several me dona on or with any amount with which you can gi us. We have heard some people wonder as to whether their dona ons ac-tually reach the children they are trying to help. We can assure you that we know exactly where every penny of our budget is being spent! We are small and have few administra ve costs! We also believe in opera ng on a transparent basis in that you, our sponsors, are welcome to review our budget and our books at any me. Download the Sponsorship Form: h p://www.faithlutheranchurch.com/docs/SponsorshipForm.pdf We pray that you will consider sponsoring one or more girls at Chez Moi Orphanage. Simply print from link, complete the form or forms and send to us with your check for your first month. Also, please, please, please feel free to pass this message and form along to your family and friends. We thank God for you and thank Him in advance for a successful spon-sorship drive. We pray that the Lord moves your heart to assist Grace Missions, Inc. to change the life of a girl at Chez Moi! Thank you again and God Bless! Sherri Greer and Pat Mundt
