Roper, Senior Pastor Phone: 260-485-1646 Fax: 260-486-9276 PASTOR’S COLUMN Well, it is Monday, July 27 and the mission trip is over. I am still trying to recover! As I get older it takes longer and longer to recoup the sleep that I lost. But, even with those physical things going on, I am filled with this sense of purpose and accomplishment. I have this feeling of joy in my soul. Spiritually, things couldn’t be better. And, I suppose, for each one who participated in the week, they are feeling similar things. I mean who wouldn’t? For several families in our community, life is better. They now have a house that is painted and protected, a ramp that enables them to get in and out of their house, and a roof that keeps the elements out. We were part of that. The question that went through my mind last week and continues to do so today is now what? It is fun and exciting to spend a week like we did last week. But what do we do now? Mission Serve’s theme this year is next. Often last week, we talked about what is our next. Now that the mission week is over, our next is our now. So, what are we going to do with our now? While last week was wonderful it is not our reality. We don’t sleep at the church. We don’t have 160 people there everyday. We aren’t part of work crews around the city. Last week was not our reality. What we each must do is determine how to make it real. How do we take the elements of last week and make them elements of our daily life? No, we will not have big experiences with hundreds of people everyday. But can we take the motives of last week and put them into play each day? Yes, we can. And we should. Last week wasn’t about the big. It was about serving and loving people in the name of Jesus. Our motivation for hosting and participating in an event like Mission Serve was so that we could show Fort Wayne that Jesus loves them. It is that motivation that show drive us everyday. There was a lot of emotion that came pouring out of people last week and it was wonderful to see. But all that emotion is for naught if we don’t continue to live out the why. If our motivation for last week doesn’t carry over into our now then the emotion from last week stops being something that is beautiful and encouraging and instead induces feelings of pain and hurt. I loved last week. I am so thrilled that we as the body of Christ came together to make a tangible difference in Fort Wayne. But it can’t stop there. Last week needs to be a starting point, a jumping off point. It is a moment in life where we come to terms with what is really important and we continue to live that out in our individual lives daily. The way we live our now determines our next. Make last week real by living it out today. Seeking to live a better now, Pastor Steve

PASTOR’S COLUMN

Well, it is Monday, July 27 and the mission trip is over. I am still trying to recover! As I get

older it takes longer and longer to recoup the sleep that I lost. But, even with those

physical things going on, I am filled with this sense of purpose and accomplishment. I

have this feeling of joy in my soul. Spiritually, things couldn’t be better.

And, I suppose, for each one who participated in the week, they are feeling

similar things. I mean who wouldn’t? For several families in our community, life is better.

They now have a house that is painted and protected, a ramp that enables them to get

in and out of their house, and a roof that keeps the elements out. We were part of that.

The question that went through my mind last week and continues to do so today

is now what? It is fun and exciting to spend a week like we did last week. But what do we

do now? Mission Serve’s theme this year is next. Often last week, we talked about what is

our next. Now that the mission week is over, our next is our now. So, what are we going to

do with our now?

While last week was wonderful it is not our reality. We don’t sleep at the church.

We don’t have 160 people there everyday. We aren’t part of work crews around the

city. Last week was not our reality. What we each must do is determine how to make it

real. How do we take the elements of last week and make them elements of our daily

life? No, we will not have big experiences with hundreds of people everyday. But can we

take the motives of last week and put them into play each day? Yes, we can. And we

should.

Last week wasn’t about the big. It was about serving and loving people in the

name of Jesus. Our motivation for hosting and participating in an event like Mission Serve

was so that we could show Fort Wayne that Jesus loves them. It is that motivation that

show drive us everyday.

There was a lot of emotion that came pouring out of people last week and it was

wonderful to see. But all that emotion is for naught if we don’t continue to live out the

why. If our motivation for last week doesn’t carry over into our now then the emotion

from last week stops being something that is beautiful and encouraging and instead

induces feelings of pain and hurt.

I loved last week. I am so thrilled that we as the body of Christ came together to

make a tangible difference in Fort Wayne. But it can’t stop there. Last week needs to be

a starting point, a jumping off point. It is a moment in life where we come to terms with

what is really important and we continue to live that out in our individual lives daily. The

way we live our now determines our next. Make last week real by living it out today.

LADIES BOOK CLUB

So that we can support the school prayer event on

the morning of August 1, we have moved our next

meeting to that following Saturday, August 8, and

we have moved our meeting place to Biggby

Coffee Shop at Georgetown Shopping.

Our book for discussion is The Boys in the Boat by

Daniel James Brown. It is a fascinating account of

young men competing in the 1936 Olympic games

in Hitler's Berlin. Please plan to be there at 10AM.

SARA’S SPOT

Preschool

We are just ready to begin a new year with

wonderful children, amazing families, and

superb teachers. We still have a few spots for 2

& 3 year olds. Call for a tour and don’t miss out

on a great school year.

Back to School Sunday

It is time to gear back up for Sunday School. On

August 23, we will have donuts, juice, and

surprises for all children, 2’s—5th grades during

Sunday School. Now is the time to invite friends

for a fun and learning filled hour.

3rd Grade Bible Sunday

On Sunday, August 30th, we will honor all 3rd

graders with their own Bible. Please let Sara

know before that Sunday if you have a child in

3rd grade. It is wonderful to recognize these

children during our “Year of the Bible”.

SCHOOL PRAYER WALK

SATURDAY, AUGUST 1

10:00 AM

Meet here at Faith—

we will pray for our

preschool,

for Croninger and for Brentwood.

AUGUST XYZ

All XYZ Club members and friends should plan for the

Thursday, August 13, club meeting in Judson Hall at

Faith Baptist Church. The meeting will start at 10:30 am

with Mrs. Sara Heminger providing the piano playing

and Mr. Harold Johnson leading the group singing.

Mrs. Gloria Bell will be presenting devotions. There will

be also be some announcements.

For the main program, Mrs. Gloria Bell has arranged for

the “Better Business Bureau” to make a presentation on

“Scams”. There should be much interest and lots of

practical information in the presentation. This should be

a very interesting meeting.

The hostesses, Mrs. Clara Cook and Mrs. Rosalyce

Grubbs will arrange the lunch. The lunch callers will

have called their members and reported the numbers

to the chef, Mrs. Deborah Wight. If there are others, not

called, who want to attend the lunch please call the

church, 485-1646, and leave a message so the chef can

plan the correct number for lunch.

At 12:00, those who made reservations will enjoy the

Swiss Steak made by Mrs. Deborah Wight. All club

members will bring their favorite dishes. Each month,

the dinner is great and the cost is only $3 per person. As

usual, all present will enjoy the lunch, the fellowship and

will join in to help with the cleanup after the lunch.

TONY’S TIDINGS

Dear Church,

Thank You! Because of your efforts and support, Serve Week 2015 was a huge success. How amazing is it that six

churches came together to serve fourteen homeowners and one local church; paint, handicapped ramps, and

new roofs were all part of the scope of work.

Now that the week is over and the participants have packed up and returned home, we need to begin to think

about our NEXT (this was the theme for our week). We need to begin asking ourselves questions such as how do

we keep the momentum going? What does this past week mean to the congregation of FBC? Should we do this

again? How does this fit within our vision? These are the things we need to begin thinking about.

Over the next several weeks I would like to make myself available to anyone who wishes to share their thoughts

with me. Yes, I understand that by doing so I might be opening the door for negative comments and dissension –

this is o.k. so long as it is done in love. The goal of this time is to grow in our efforts to bring Serve Week back to FBC

and Fort Wayne in 2016. Moreover, my desire is to see an increased number of participants from our church –

there is a spot for everyone regardless of age or ability.

Should you choose to share your thoughts with me, please feel free to contact me via phone or e-mail and we will

pick a time to meet and discuss your thoughts. Remember, this is not the “Tony” show – nor is this simply a youth

function – this is about our church and her desire to reach a community for Christ. After all, how will they know

what they have never heard?
