Reduce your footprint so your children can enjoy the Fal River just like you have done!
Useful maps of the Roseland Peninsula, Truro, Falmouth, St Mawes and ferry routes on the river.

Festivals, shows, talks, regattas, open days, carnivals... Just some of the 800 plus events.
Welcome to the Fal River, Cornwalls most popular visitor destination.
This beautiful Cornish river runs through an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is surrounded by award winning attractions, beautiful sub-tropical gardens and plenty of fun things to see and do.
At the heart of this area you will find Fal River Links, an integrated network of ferries, buses and trains that connect the river to its many attractions.
The Fal Mussel Card Visitor is a hassle free travel card for the area that gives you unlimited Hop-On Hop-Off travel on Fal River Links. Not only can the card save you up to 30 a day but it also gives you a discount at most of the attractions, activity providers, shops, cafes and gardens around the river.
We feel extremely privileged to live and work on the river and we hope this guide will help you make the most of your visit. When you have finished with the guide, do please pass it onto a friend.
Thanks and please let us know if we can do anything better.

6 One of the main reasons that the Fal River has established itself as Cornwalls most popular visitor destination is the stunning, unspoilt natural beauty that surrounds it.
For me, it is so important that we manage the growth in visitor numbers in a sustainable way and protect that which has made theFal River so special.
This is why Fal River Links is so important. By providing a fun and reliable network of ferries, buses and trains that connect all the great places to visit around the river, visitors really have every reason to enjoy a car free day out.
We launched the Fal Mussel Card in 2010 to help tempt people away from their car and last year we saw sales increase by 400%. This innovative travel card is a win win for visitors. Its great value, easy to use, fun and is your ideal ticket for a great day out on the river.

Discover Falmouth (p56)The third largest natural deep water harbour in the world, Falmouth and its active port are bustling with activity all year round. Falmouth plays host to a wide range of cafes, shops, galleries and bars. it is also home to the Maritime Museum and Pendennis Castle as well as hosting the Oyster Festival, Fal river Festival and Falmouth Week.
Falmouth has limited long stay parking and for this reason the Park & Float / ride was established in 2003. visitors to the town can now help reduce congestion and pollution by using the 500 space car park on the outskirts of town at Ponsharden.
Wash away the stress of parking. after reaching Ponsharden, hop aboard one of our classic ferries and enjoy an informative commentary on your way to Falmouth.
All day parkingWith over 500 spaces, toilets, refreshments and regular boat & bus services into Falmouth, Ponsharden is the ideal place to leave your car before heading into Falmouth or further afield for the day.
Park and FloatWhat better way to arrive in Falmouth than aboard a classic wooden ferry? after parking at Ponsharden take a leisurely trip down the Penryn river to Falmouths Custom House Quay. Ferries depart from the car park every 20 minutes. We love our ferries and we hope you do to!
Park and RideBuses depart from the car park every 20 minutes and go direct to Falmouths High street and Prince of Wales Pier. From PW Pier the Maritime Museum is a 10-15 minutes walk through the centre of town.

GETTING AROUNDFAL RIVER LINKS
The St Mawes Ferry connects the charming fishing village of St Mawes with the bustling port of Falmouth. The ferry provides an all year round service to over 162,000 visitors a year and is an absolute must for anyone visiting Cornwall.
Passing the impressive castles of st Mawes & Pendennis, the ferry route takes you on a magical journey across the Carrick roads. as well as the castles you will see many large ships, the working docks of Falmouth, Black rock (a local isolated shipping hazard) and, if youre lucky, some of the dolphins and bask-ing sharks that regularly visit the harbour.
The classic wooden ferries depart every hour during the winter and three times an hour during the summer. Capacity is never a problem as each ferry can carry up to 100 passengers and covered seating is provided in case we get some Cornish liquid sunshine.
safety is paramount and all our vessels and staff are licensed by the Maritime & Coastguard agency.
The PastThere has been a ferry running between st Mawes & Falmouth since 1827. since then the service has seen a multitude of vessels operating on the well established route. its estimated that since its inception, over 50 million passengers have made the historic passage between st Mawes & Falmouth.

King Harry Ferry - Voted one of the Top Ten ferry crossings in the world. The Independent on Sunday
In order to guide the
350 tonne ferry back
and forth in all weather
conditions, the ferrys
270m long chains have
to be incredibly strong
and tough. With up to
80 crossings a day, 364
days a year, the chains
undergo a huge amount
of wear and have to be
replaced regularly. After
entering the ferry over
small jockey wheels at
each end the chain is
fed onto the main drive
wheels (You can see
the chain through the
glass windows in the
deck) which pull the
ferry across the river.
These large wheels are
over 2m in diam-
eter and are driven by
hydraulic motors, which
in turn are powered by
one of the ferrys three
diesel engines.
The King Harry Ferry is an iconic part of Cornwalls history. Estab-lished in 1888 it connects St Mawes and the Roseland Peninsula with Feock, Truro and Falmouth by avoiding the alternative 27 mile route through Truro & Tresillian.
One of only five chain ferries in england, it departs every 20 minutes from each side, 7 days a week and the ferry is a key transport link for visitors and locals alike.
The king Harry Ferry offers its passengers the chance to avoid miles of congested roads and once aboard you can get out and enjoy the slow river crossing which takes in one of Cornwalls deepest and most beauti-ful rivers - the Fal river..
The new ferry with its glass side, chain view-ing windows and touch screen information display is combining state of the art tech-nology with a traditional friendly service.
safety is paramount and the ferry and its staff are fully licensed by the Coastguard.
