Appendix BSetting up and Configuring a PowerScan

OverviewThis chapter contains information about the PowerScan bar code scanner:

• "PSC PowerScan RF Product Overview" starting on page B-15.

• "Setup for Keyboard Wedge Interface" starting on page B-17

PSC PowerScan RF Product OverviewWith the PSC PowerScan RF wireless scanner, you have the freedom to go where the work is, not the other way around. Now you only have to take the 27.5 oz. (0.8 kg) PowerScan RF scanner to the 500 lb. (227 kg) pallet; not the pallet to the scanner.

The PowerScan RF is based on the original PowerScan laser scanner, the first scanner designed from the ground up for rugged industrial use. The RF has a drop specification of 30 six foot (1.8 m) drops to concrete!

Built for Rugged Industrial Environments

All models of PowerScan RF have the same rugged features that have made PowerScan scanners the choice for tough industrial applications.

• High impact enclosure with protective rubber cushioning.

• Frictionless scan mechanism with a limited lifetime warranty.

• Shock mounted optical components.

• Diamond coated, shatter-proof window.

• Flash Memory for easy field upgrades.

Setting up and Configuring a PowerScan

16 Falcon® 4620

Features• Operates up to 8 hours on a single charge.

• Wireless operation up to 150'/46 m unobstructed from the base station.

• QuadraLogic™ II decoding software for superior scanning perfor-mance.

• Multi-point operation allows for multiple scanner communications to a single base station.

Connecting A PowerScan to the Falcon 4620Connect either a PSC PowerScan and PowerScan RF to COM1 on the FAlcon 4620. Use a scanner interface configuration that supports RS232. The Scan-ner draws power from the cable connection to the computer, rather than from a separate power cord (referred to as “POT” or power off terminal). Scan the bar code below to set your PowerScan to use RS 232. The Power Scan default keys are:

SerialKeys allows alternative access to the computer by emulating keyboard and mouse features. The Seri-alKeys option takes the serial input and redirects it to the keyboard buffer.

To turn SerialKeys On:

1. From the Start menu, select Settings > Control Panel.

2. From the Control Panel, double-click on Accessibility Options icon to open it.

3. Click the General tab.

4. At the bottom of the General tab, check the Support SerialKey Devices box .

5. To the right of Support SerialKey Devices, click on the Settings box to open Settings For SerialKeys.

6. Select COM1 from the Serial Port pull-down list and 1200 from the Baud Rate pull-down list.

7. Open Word Pad and use the PowerScan to scan a bar code. The data should appear in Word Pad.

To turn SerialKeys on, the user must have administrative rights to the computer.
