    Immersion Experiences

One of the purposes of the SLCs

10 month process is to help peopleidentify personally with injustice,

suffering, and pain in the world. We

do this so that individuals will deter-mine to stop participating in the

    systems that create and perpetuate

poverty and other kinds of oppression

in the world. We also do this so that

some will take up the task of working

to reform the systems and eliminate

the inequities that are so prevalent in

todays culture. While much of soci-

ety may be fine with letting people

other than themselves suffer underthe crushing weight of injustice,

    servant leaders are not.

Therefore, we ask that eachparticipant in the 10 month process

participate in at least two immersion

experiences during the course of the

program. Following is a list of possi-

bilities to explore. You may partici-

pate in any of these on your own, or

    contact Steve at 419-476-0941 to

    arrange for a group experience.

    Youll be glad you did!

    I don't know what your

    destiny will be, but one

thing I do know: the onlyones among you who willbe really happy are those

    who have sought and found

    how to serve.

    Albert Schweitzer

Serving a meal or, better yet, sitting and sharing a mealwith a homeless or hungry person, is a great opportunity

to connect with those who suffer under poverty. All of the

following soup kitchens gladly accept volunteer help ona one-time, periodic, or ongoing basis. Warning: if you

go once, you probably wont want to stop!

10 Month Process: Servant Leadership - Threshold To A Life Transformed

Stop and think what we could do tochange areas in the social justice realmif we recognized that our gifts are from

God, to be shared and to be used forHis greater good. More people wouldparticipate inempoweringthemselves andothers ratherthan beingapathetic. Thecourse helpedme to recog-nize that God loves me, gives me giftsand wants me to share them for His

greater good! ...It is a wonderful spiritualjourney!

    Trina Shultz, Delphos

[People] would really benefit from thisprocess as it awakens us to what we are

truly supposed to focus on in our lives:

helping others, serving others, and be-ing truly present to God and all he has

for us to dowhile we are

    here in thisworld. Know-

    ing, loving andserving Himthrough our

lives andremembering this through the readings, sharing, etc. are what make the ServantLeadership process so enriching for our

lives as we continue on this journey.

    Tony & Ginny Lucarelli, Swanton

    Our chief want is someone

who will inspire us to be

what we know we could be.

    Ralph Waldo Emerson

The 10 month process is the cor-

    nerstone program of The Servant

    Leadership Center. It offers personal

    spiritual development and growth,

    confrontation of the societal conditions

    that create and perpetuate poverty

and others forms of injustice in the

world, and a means for sorting out

where each of us belongs in the work

of righting the wrongs that are so

visible, yet ignored in our culture. It is

a process that brings personal trans-

formation, and aims at helping bringcommunity and cultural transformation

    through its participants. Read these
