Do you have God size expecta-tions? Do you believe that God wants to do something BIG? So often I think that we like to think that we do, but deep down and in the back of our minds, we don’t really expect God to do anything out of the ordinary. In fact, is it possible that deep down we really don’t want Him to do anything out of the ordinary because that would make things uncomfort-able? At the end of Matthew 15, we find Jesus coming home and teaching the people and Scripture tells us, at first, that they were amazed. They couldn’t believe that He was filled with so much wisdom and had the power to do miraculous signs. But then, they started asking questions. They started thinking, we know who this man is, He used to play out in the street with our children when He was a boy. We know His parents and all of His brothers and sisters. In a sense, it appears that they lost their amazement in who Jesus really was because they thought they knew everything about Him. And because of this, Scripture says, “And He did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.” As I think about these verses, I ponder on how many people have lost their “Awe” of Jesus. They think, “I know everything about Him” and so, when His name is mentioned, it has no effect on them. And because of their lack of faith and because they no longer marvel at His glory, He chooses to not do many miracles. May it never be said about us that Jesus did not move in our midst and do many miraculous signs because of our unbelief.

Isn’t it amazing to see God work…to be a part of His plan? I want you to know that I am humbly honored to be the Children’s Interim for “such a time as this.” I know that God has amazing things planned for our church in the days ahead. I truly love working with the kids at FBC Milan, and I appreciate you giving me this opportunity.

I want to say thank you to all of you that have stepped up and filled in the many areas of service in chil-dren’s ministry. It is a blessing to see the body of Christ in action.

I look forward to the days ahead and seeing God move in our church.

SAVE THE DATE:We will be having a church wide FALL FESTIVAL on Sunday evening, October 30. This will be a great event for our entire church family to serve and have fun to-gether.

Love in Christ, Tarra

We as a church have been in a part-nership with Connection Church, a church in New York City, for nearly four years. We have sup-ported them financially, and also sent mission teams up there to minister at least once a year, some-times twice a year. In the next year, our partnership with them will come to an end. It has been a great experience, and the church is doing well. It is now time for us to look for another partnership with a new church start-up. Much consideration goes into this future partnership. Things suchs as costs, the lostness of the people, and their leadership are just some of them. Please pray for this process; we want to be led by the Lord to the next church that we can help in reaching their city for Christ!

September 11, 2016, our morning worship service, is going to be to-tally dedicated to prayer. We are going to be praying for our church, our city, our nation, and our own individual lives. For our church, I cannot think of a service that is any more important for you to at-tend than this one!

Proud to be your pastor!

September starts a new quarter for us in Sunday School at FBC. With this new quarter also brings us all to an empha-sis on sharing the Gospel. Almost all of our Sunday School classes are using the Bible Studies for Life literature this quar-ter as we talk about the Gospel. We are going to take the next 3 months and talk about what the Gospel truth is and why it is so important to share that truth. If you are not currently involved in a Sun-day School class, this is going to be a great time to join one. We offer so many choices with co-ed, men’s, and women’s classes. September will also see us start another new Sunday School class. Warren & Liz Neely and Garrett & Leah McElroy will be starting a new Couples 2 class upstairs. Jason & Carrie Hurt will be joining Matt & Tarra Sims in teaching Couples 3. I hope you will join me in praying for each of these teachers as they venture into new areas. If you are interested in joining one of these young couples classes, we’d love to see you on Sunday mornings at 9:00. If you look hard this fall, you’ll see a theme going on. SNL groups are study-ing what holding to the truth of the Gos-pel in a very tumultuous culture looks like. Sunday School literature is focusing on the unvarnished truth of the Gospel. In October, we will be challenging each of you to take part in a 3151 Challenge. We will be asking you to:- Pray daily for 3 lost people you know.- Learn 1 Gospel presentation (which we will all do corporately on Sunday, October 9).- Invite 5 people to a small group at FBC.- Present the Gospel 1 time during the month. We will be talking much more in Sep-tember and October about this chal-lenge, but I hope you will take this month to prepare and equip yourself to be about the Gospel and the mission of spreading its truth in Milan.

The Golden Agers met on Thursday, August 11, for the regular monthly meeting and enjoyed a delicious meal and a good program by The Thom-as and Friends Trio. The next meeting will be on Thursday, September 8.

Some of our group enjoyed a trip to the Senior Adult Extravaganza at Union University on Thursday, August 4, and also the Gibson Baptist Association Senior Adult event at FBC Dyer on August 16.

On Monday, September 12, we will go to Bellevue to hear speaker John Picarello who was a NYC fireman on 9/11. Tickets are $8, and money is due by September 9. Sign up soon if you are interested in going. We will leave FBC at 9:00a.m.

Looking forward to seeing you at our next meeting!

BOTSWANA Thank you OCC for the wonderful presents and smile you brought to my kids (Trsh - 7 years old, and Thato - 13 years old). The moment they received this pres-ent they were over the moon! This made my kids love church so much and their faorite verse is John 3:16. I am so glad because this made them know Jesus Christ and they now know how to pray every day. May God bless you and shower you with the riches of Heaven! “Peace be with you.” Ms. Phakedi

Well, guess what? It’s that time again to begin Christmas giving for Operation Christmas Child! Our hearts are already in tune with God’s will and purpose to serve the world with boxes of His hope and salvation and our love and prayers for each recipient of these appointed gifts. The focus of our meetings has pointed us towards our “lit-tle” contributions as we give ourselves to be a blessing as we are so blessed. It is a beautiful privilege to do so. “Little is much when God is in it!!!” It was a surreal blessing as we re-visited Ethiopia via tes-timony and video with Joan Appleton. As we looked upon the faces of those smiling children and adults, our hearts were enlightened and touched as we related to their expression of hope in Jesus! A salad lunch was enjoyed by all and OCC boxes were given to each person attending and, as always, prayers were shared for all the missionaries whose birthdays were on that day. We welcome all you ladies to come see us and join your hearts in missions. We would like to express our sympathy to the family of Gene Gosney who passed away on July 25.
