The Y has been a leader in teaching people to swim for more than 150 years! Our comprehensive and progressive program roster has something for the whole family.

Free Swim Evaluations Is this your first time in our lesson program, or have you taken a break from the water and are unsure of the best fit for your child? We offer FREE evaluations for children 3 and older to ensure correct level placement! Please check your center for current evaluation schedules.

Make-Ups One make-up per participant per session will be allowed if there is space in an appropriate class. Space is not guaranteed. Make-ups for missed classes must be completed before the end of the session and pre-scheduled with a director. Refunds and credits will not be issued for missed classes. To request a make-up, please email your center’s aquatics department.

Cancellations and Refunds If you are unable to attend a session of classes that you have registered for, kindly give us a one-week notice before the session begins so that we can fill the spot or make a determination if the class has met minimum enrollment. If we are able to cancel, we will issue you a credit voucher in the amount that you paid for the class.

Group Swim Lessons (Ages 3-12) Choose which option fits best with your family’s scheduling needs. The days and times for both options are represented in all group preschool and group youth lesson sections. Please note that class times and offerings may adjust based on enrollment; our website will have the most up-to-date class schedule.

Session-Based Swim Lessons (Ages 3-12)Session-based swim lessons are available for Members and Non-Members (members receive priority registration and a discount). If you chose this option, you will need to sign up for the day and time of classes and pay prior to each session of swim lessons.

School Year Swim Lessons (Ages 3-12)School Year Swim Lessons are available as a benefit to members. If you chose this option, you pick the day and time of group lessons that fit your schedule at the beginning of the fall session and then keep that day and time for the school year. Our instructors will move your child through the levels as they advance. Any changes to your child’s registration can be coordinated through the Aquatics Department at your center (not the membership desk). Participants must commit to a minimum of 4 months of lessons to participate in this program.

After the initial 4-month period, all withdrawal requests should be directed to the aquatics department, in writing, 30 days prior to the last session in which you wish to participate.

Program Length: 34 weeks of swim lessons

Dates: Aug 29 through the end of May 2017. See registration form for holiday dates.

Fees: 1 day a week for only $37 a month per child. Add a second day per week for an additional $30 per month per child. Fees for school year lessons will automatically be drafted the first of each month.

To register, please contact your center’s aquatics director using the email

addresses at the bottom of this column.

Select Swim Lessons (Ages 3-12)All Select lessons follow the same curriculum as group swim lessons, but each lesson is 25 minutes in length instead of 40 and has a maximum ratio of 1 instructor to 3 students for all preschool levels and 1 instructor to 4 students for

all youth levels.

Parent/Child Swim Lessons (6 to 36 months)Our parent/child swim lessons promote water enrichment and aquatic-readiness activities for children and their parents or other trusted adults. In this program, the developmental experiences of each child are used to build the child’s self-confidence in and out of the water. Parents learn from the instructor’s example how to guide their children through positive reinforcement and appropriate praise.

There are four levels based on developmental abilities:• Shrimp (6-8 months) Child can control their head and sit with support

from the hands.• Kipper (9-12 months) Child can sit without hand support and stand

with support from the hands.• Inia (13-18 months) Child can stand without support and walk with or

without support or aid.• Perch (19-36 months) Child can run and jump.

Preschool Swim Lessons (Ages 3-5)These programs offer children their first experience in the water without a parent. Fry Swim League (Ages 7-14)This program is the highest level of our swim lessons and designed for advanced swimmers, ready for something more than swim lessons, but not ready to commit to a year-round team! The Fry Swim League provides a team-like training atmosphere for participants to refine swim strokes and build endurance. With a focus on competitive skills, swimmers will learn swimming strategies, diving skills and how to use the pace clock. Swimmers are broken into groups based on age and all participants are encouraged to join us for a mock meet at the end of Fall 2 and Spring 2. Swimmers will choose lessons either 2 or 3 times per week.

SWIM TEAMSPorpoise Fall Swim Team Clinic (Ages 5-18)The Kroehler Family YMCA offers a Fall Swim Team Clinic. The Fall Swim Team Clinic will offer pre-season conditioning for the fall swim team. Participants will receive instruction on the 4 competitive strokes, starts and turns. Coaches will also work with participants on speed and endurance. This is a great way to keep your swimmer in the pool between seasons and give them a head start for fall swim team. Swimmers are grouped based on ability level. All new swimmers will need to be evaluated prior to registration. This clinic is run by certified coaches that have the knowledge and expertise to help your swimmer prepare for a great swim season.

Porpoise Fall Swim Team (Ages 5-18)The Naperville YMCA Porpoises Swim Team is targeted to accept as many swimmers, from as wide a variety of competitive backgrounds, as space will permit. Our team includes first-year swimmers directly from lessons, as well as National Qualifiers. Participants must have an active membership with the Naperville YMCAs. Porpoise Swim Team is for young athletes who want to compete or learn to compete, and is not designed as an exercise program. Our fees are based on an a la carte menu where you pick and pay for the days of your choice. All new swimmers will be evaluated prior to registration to ensure proper group placement.

Swimmers must practice with their assigned group. As new swimmers develop, we will encourage a deeper commitment to practices, or suggest an adjustment in the group, to keep challenging the swimmers. The head coach designs workouts to practice as correctly as possible, at the highest intensity appropriate for each group. Teaching and refining strokes, turns, finishes and starts is a part of every practice. Practice sessions are mostly held at the Kroehler YMCA, but limited practice sessions are conducted at the Fry YMCA and North Central College. This team is run by certified coaches that have the knowledge and expertise to help your swimmer prepare for a great swim team season.

Our season will begin September 6 and run through mid-March. RETURNING Porpoise Team Members and sibling registration opens July 10 at 10 a.m. through the Kroehler front desk. NEW swimmers can sign up starting Sunday, July 24, 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Kroehler YMCA. All new swimmers must be evaluated before sign-up; evaluations schedule is on our website, swimnapy.com. Participation in a minimum of 3 YMCA meets is required for all team members. Withdrawals from the Porpoise program after Sept. 6 will be prorated and NO refunds will be granted after Oct. 2 without a documented medical explanation. Additional information is available at the Kroehler Membership Desk or by emailing Head Coach Bob Peto at [email protected].

Masters Swim Team (Ages 18+)Masters Swimming is our swim group for adult members 18 and older. This program provides swimmers with coached practices and Masters-only lap lanes. Practices are designed to help swimmers maintain or improve their overall swimming fitness level. This is not a swim lesson, but stroke technique and efficiency work are built into the program. Adults of all skill levels are welcome to join, from the casual adult lap swimmer to adults interested in competing in swim meets or triathlons. All swimmers must be able to swim at least 4 lengths of the pool continuously of front crawl with rhythmic breathing.

For schedules and fees, please refer to our website, fryymca.org, or contact [email protected].

At the Y, we regard each child as a unique individual who needs to be understood, guided, encouraged and appreciated. Y programs encourage children to explore their creativity through multi-sensory experiences and create a language-rich environment to promote and foster a love of reading. Children are exposed to art, music, math and science as they develop expressive and receptive language and gross motor skills.

School Age Days Out(Ages 6-12)This is the perfect program to keep your children busy while you’re at work, running errands or simply looking for a day to catch up.
