COVID Health Committee Updates
MarCom Updates
• ISU MarCom secured an independent firm to conduct three statewide perception surveys over three years. The first two have been completed. In the second, the association of ISU with health professions programs showed substantial increase (pages 13-17 on the survey)
• Several written works, photo and video submissions will be included in the Idaho State Historical Society’s COVID-19 archive

• Newly cultivated relationships with local health reporters in SE Idaho to be their first call for any health / health care related pieces
• Completed KBSU and KBSX public radio promotions to increase awareness of multiple KDHS programs
• KDHS video ad currently underway will highlight 9 different KDHS programs

Budget Updates
• While the Fall 2020 10th Day total enrollment is 9,362, a decline of -321 or -3.3%, there is a bit of good news. 35% or 112 of the decline is from Early College students enrolled in Fall 2020 compared to Fall 2019. Excluding Early College students the decline in enrollment is -209 students for Fall 2020.
• When excluding Early College students, losses in undergraduate enrollment of -348 or -5% were offset by an increase of +139 or +7% graduate students.
• Total undergraduate and graduate enrollment (including Early College students) by residency (row 438,439,440) : Idaho resident declined -286 or -3.5% to 8,008; international declined -93 or -26.2% to 262; Non Idaho Resident increased +60 or +5.8% to 1,092.
• Undergraduate degree-seeking enrollment is 6,976 a decline of -290 or -4.0% from last fall. (row 1337).

Faculty Senate Updates • Cascading email update from FS
• Faculty should be watching for a cascading email from FS every 2 weeks with updates from our most recent FS meeting.
• This is to ensure FS continues to engage faculty across campus as much as possible.
• If you have any questions or want more details after reading those cascading emails, reach out to your senator as appropriate.
Faculty Senate Updates • Potential spring schedule changes
• Some issues that we have reached out to faculty to discuss have been • how to address Spring Break for the spring
semester so that we avoid students, staff and faculty to travel-related COVID exposure.
• The administration has several options they are entertaining in terms of a plan, and Senators have been asked to get input from faculty in all departments to help inform the eventual choice made.
• We will be providing all of that feedback by today to the Provost's office.

• This is a formal request of our University from the State Board of Education; it is a requirement.
• We now have extensive data from all university programs, related to metrics that were approved upon in the last several months.
• The program Chairs and Deans have access to this information as it pertains to their departments.
• Faculty Senate has been advised that individual programs should contact their department heads or deans to discuss these metrics and review the data.
• The FS has asked the Faculty Professional Policies Council (FPPC) to generate a statement that provides some guidance from faculty about how this information might be best utilized by the SBOE.

• Sue Tavernier and Barbara Gordon were awarded ISU Teaching Innovation Grant for their project “Putting students in the driver’s seat: A participatory approach to developing an interprofessional course on palliative care”
• Through a Community Health Improvement Fund grant from St. Luke’s Hospital, Idaho State’s Meridian campus was able to obtain required telehealth certification and gain laptop computers for virtual counseling sessions. Idaho State’s main campus in Pocatello will also be offering the services.

Frontiers of Family Medicine Project is funded by a five year PTCE-RTPC HRSA grant, $1,759,775 over five years
• Melanie Wright was awarded a R01, NIH grant that will be four years in duration, proposed amount is $2,075,856
• The State Department of Education (SDE) received a $3.6 million, five-year federal grant for suicide prevention. The Institute of Rural Health has received $40,000 of that to serve as one of several entities across the state that will analyze, evaluate, and report data on activities and interventions with Idaho’s youth age ten to 24 who are at-risk for suicide.

• Char Byington is the 2020 recipient of the Phi Upsilon Omicron Community Impact Grant
• IRH receives $550,000 grant to care for rural Idahoans, this marks the 12 year of the program, which exists in partnership with AmeriCorps.

KDHS Reorg
• On July 1, 2020, the KDHS reorganized into two colleges College of Pharmacy and College of Health
• The task to reorganize the KDHS began in Fall 2019, with a goal to identify potential savings and generate increased revenue in clinical services.
KDHS Reorg
• The need to reorganize the Division was compounded by budget reductions from the State of Idaho
• One of the budget savings initiatives that became evident was a reduction in administrative level payroll, benefits costs and operating expenditures.
• The KDHS had dean searches underway for three of its four colleges, and was identified as a place where cost savings in these areas could be immediately realized.
KDHS Reorg: Position Changes
• Karen Neill is the associate dean and director of nursing for the newly formed College of Health.
• Chris Sanford is the interim associate dean and director of rehabilitation and communication sciences for the College of Health. He remains the chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.

• Char Byington is the new chair for the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics while retaining her positions as director of the Dietetic Internship program.
• Ellen Rogo is the interim department chair of Dental Hygiene.

• We now have extensive data from all university programs, related to metrics that were approved upon in the last several months.
• The program Chairs and Deans have access to this information as it pertains to their departments.
• Faculty Senate has been advised that individual programs should contact their department heads or deans to discuss these metrics and review the data.
• The FS has asked the Faculty Professional Policies Council (FPPC) to generate a statement that provides some guidance from faculty about how this information might be best utilized by the SBOE.

• Sue Tavernier and Barbara Gordon were awarded ISU Teaching Innovation Grant for their project “Putting students in the driver’s seat: A participatory approach to developing an interprofessional course on palliative care”
• Through a Community Health Improvement Fund grant from St. Luke’s Hospital, Idaho State’s Meridian campus was able to obtain required telehealth certification and gain laptop computers for virtual counseling sessions. Idaho State’s main campus in Pocatello will also be offering the services.

Frontiers of Family Medicine Project is funded by a five year PTCE-RTPC HRSA grant, $1,759,775 over five years
• Melanie Wright was awarded a R01, NIH grant that will be four years in duration, proposed amount is $2,075,856
• The State Department of Education (SDE) received a $3.6 million, five-year federal grant for suicide prevention. The Institute of Rural Health has received $40,000 of that to serve as one of several entities across the state that will analyze, evaluate, and report data on activities and interventions with Idaho’s youth age ten to 24 who are at-risk for suicide.

• In Fall 2020, the first psychiatrists in a new psychiatric residency program, in collaboration with the University of Utah, will begin their residency training in Salt Lake City.

• IRH receives $550,000 grant to care for rural Idahoans, this marks the 12 year of the program, which exists in partnership with AmeriCorps.

KDHS Reorg
• On July 1, 2020, the KDHS reorganized into two colleges College of Pharmacy and College of Health
• The task to reorganize the KDHS began in Fall 2019, with a goal to identify potential savings and generate increased revenue in clinical services.

• The need to reorganize the Division was compounded by budget reductions from the State of Idaho
• One of the budget savings initiatives that became evident was a reduction in administrative level payroll, benefits costs and operating expenditures.
• The KDHS had dean searches underway for three of its four colleges, and was identified as a place where cost savings in these areas could be immediately realized.

• Karen Neill is the associate dean and director of nursing for the newly formed College of Health.
• Chris Sanford is the interim associate dean and director of rehabilitation and communication sciences for the College of Health. He remains the chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
