New Auburn High School stu-dent’s recently presented at the 2017 Special Education Conference at the Kalahari Resort in the Wiscon-sin Dells. On October 10, 2017.
New Auburn student’s Helen Glaser and Nicole Nimsger , along with their teachers Mrs. North and Ms Sheskey (recently retired), spoke at the conference on New Auburn’s Career Skill’s Class. During their session, they spoke to teachers from throughout Wisconsin about their inclusive year-long Career’s Skill’s Class. New Auburn students shared about their experiences in the class including their“Mock Interview Day” and “Community Outreach Day.” In addition, they discussed how New Auburn’s three school-run businesses (balloon, snack cart and button) were operated and related skills acquired by students
which were, ultimately, learned through business operations.
Helen Glaser stated, “This op-portunity helps other teachers know how to do these type of ac-tivities in their schools so students can work and learn employment skills.” Nicole Nimsger commented about her experience, “I think every-one should experience this class and what it can do for you and how it can help students understand others who may have a disability.”
Mrs. North and Ms. Sheskey have been co-teaching this course for the past three years. Even though Ms. Sheskey is retired, she was gracious enough to join the group in this presentation.

Arts and Craft Fair
A huge thanks goes out to the Bloomer Woman’s Club for allowing us to have a booth in the entrance hall of the Elementary School this past Sat-urday during their Art’s and Craft sale. We got to see so many people and talk about the work we do at the Pantry while focusing on the Weekend Kids Back Pack program. It was great fun! We hope that everyone enjoyed seeing the bags of food that we send home to students every Friday who sign up to receive this food for them-selves during the weekend. If there are any other students who have not signed up that you know who could benefit from some extra food dur-ing the weekend, we are hoping that you will encourage the family to add their child’s name to the list at school. The bags are delivered to the school and then to the bus on Friday where they are given to the child as they leave the bus for the weekend. That way we trust that the food reaches the home! We know it is tempting for children to open the bags prior to getting home, but we do want them to take them home in their backpack and open them at home. We also thank those of you who donated some food to our collection tub. Many thanks for this help. If you ever want to see the food pantry, please call and we would love to show you our facility and explain what we do each week for our neighbors who are struggling with feeding their families. Our phone number is: 715-568-3733.
“Food for More”
Feed My People Food Bank, in Eau Claire have a challenge that we are involved in where they will give us 5,000 pounds of extra food free if we can collect $5,000 from our community. If we do, then we get not only the food that we buy from them for approximately 16 Cents a pound, we will get another 5,000 pounds of food free! Every $10 you donate allows us to provide approximately 40 meals worth of food. We have participated in this challenge in the past and this community has been so giving that we were able to complete the match. We are hop-ing to do the same this year.If you would like to help us reach our goal, please send a check to us, with Food for More noted in the memo section and we will add it to some of the nice checks we are starting to receive. The challenge lasts until the end of October! When I talk to other parties in the area, I am always so proud of tell-ing about this pantry here in Bloomer, caring for both the residents of Bloomer and New Auburn school district area.. We have such great sup-port and are so happy to be able to do this work for our community. So many people struggle through job lay-offs, health situations that require expensive medications, cutbacks at work that reduce their take-home pay, or increases in rent, car repairs or helping other members of their fami-lies. Many come to us for short periods of time, some for longer but all thank us many times over for the help they receive. Once they are “back on their feet”, they leave us! And, we hope that they are doing fine. That is our job! It is through your generosity that this all works. “Caring for each other”, that is what we, all of you and all of us, do each day. Thank you for join-ing us in this commitment to our neighbors.
