FALL ART EXHIBITREGIONAL JURIED ART

You’ve heard the phrase that says things improve with age. It is certainly true of our six-year-old Downtown Art Exhibit. This wonderful project, born of the dreams and determination of a few, has grown in many ways over the past six years. The Exhibit has grown in stature and variety. We have more people helping with the donation of their resources, more artists entering, and more members joining the Art League. We are grateful to each and every one.

The Art League and the Downtown Art Exhibit were established to nurture and showcase the treasures that are Crawfordsville’s heart and soul — her people and their gifts. We have enjoyed providing a venue for so many fi ne artists from several counties. As proud guardians of this vital community offering, we are so very happy to welcome you to our downtown and invite you to enjoy the pleasures of our community.

Sue Ann Ford, Art League President

Bringing art and people to our downtowns is one of the most visible and concrete decisions we can make to build strong communities. Just as art is an expression of the artist’s soul, a downtown is an expression of the community’s soul — past, present, and future. Come! Experience the art! Listen to the Jazz! Take time to experience the rich history of this wonderful Indiana town and be a part of shaping it’s future.

SELF-GUIDED TOUR MAP

This year the window celebrating art around the world is spotlighting Alaskan art. Much of the art in this display is from the personal collection of Janet Johnson and her husband Dan, as well as from other local private collectors.

Each spring the Crawfordsville Art League recognizes three outstanding area high school seniors for their artistic abilities. This year’s scholarship winners are: Ana Yesnik (Crawfordsville High School), Kristin Silotto (North Montgomery High School), and Abbey Bullerdick (South Montgomery High School)

Lee Detchon (1900-1994), a Crawfordsville native, is the Crawfordsville Art League Honorary Artist for 2007. He was a graduate of Wabash College. In 1993 he gave $3 mil-lion to the College along with his original art work. These are on permanent display in Detchon Hall.

The Crawfordsville Art League believes that youth art projects are very important and encourages youth to become a part of the artistic community. To that end, county elementary students were invited to display their art in the Downtown Art Exhibit, with awards going to students in fourth, fi fth, and sixth grades.
